Identify your strengths and areas for development/improvement 3 Lesson Lifestyle and Managing It 1 Your lifestyle is an important factor of your health. Everything you do can have a good or bad effect on you. Therefore, if you want to live a long and healthy life, it is necessary for you to make better choices when it comes to your physical activity, the food that you eat and your sleeping schedules. Weight Defined “Weight” is how heavy somebody or something is, which can be measured in, for example, in kilograms or pounds. (“Weigth”,2020.) Your current weight is a result of metabolic responses of your body to your food intake, energy expenditure, and physiologic processes. Weight Gain = energy consumed is greater than energy expended = more food intake but less physical exertion Weight Loss = energy consumed is less than energy expended = more physical exertion but less food intake Weight = energy consumed equals energy expended Maintenance = physical exertion is the same with food intake Table 2. Concepts of Weight Management BMI and You BMI or Body Mass Index is a rough measure of body composition that is useful for classifying the health risks of body weight. It is based on the concept that a person’s weight should be proportional to height. BMI is calculated by dividing your body weight (in kilograms) by the square of your height (in meters). Figure 1.
