LEARNING OBJECTIVES It is an award that acknowledges folk and indigenous artists. What materials are being used in order to produce art? It is conferred on Filipinos who are at the forefront of the practice, preservation, and promotion of the nation’s traditional folk arts. What do you think is the main objective of GAMABA? It was institutionalized through Republic Act no. 7355 in April 1992. The NCCA is tasked with the implementation and administration of the award. What does NCCA stand for? The National Commission for Culture and the Arts is the highest policy making and coordinating body of the culture and arts of the state. They conduct the search for the finest traditional artists of the land; adopt a program that will ensure the transfer of their skills to others; undertake measures to promote genuine appreciation; and instill pride among our people. He/She must have consistently performed or produced over a significant period, works of superior and distinctive quality. He/She should possess mastery of the tools and materials that are needed for the art and must have a reputation for being an art master and craft maker in the community he/she belongs.
