Aircraft Maintenance & Ground Operations Foreign Object Damage 1. General Awareness Area: Minimal contact with any type of aircraft hardware. E.g., Offices, hallways 2. Control Zone: Areas where there exists a high potential for FOD entrapment and migration to the final product. E.g. Machines Shops and Tool shops 3. Critical Zone: highest risk of FOD incidents E.g. Ramp safety rules and procedures ensure safe handling, so always: (a) Read, understand and apply safety regulations. (b) Be safety minded, safety depends on you. All rights reserved. Aircraft Maintenance & Ground Operations Refueling or Defueling Aircraft Safety Precautions Refueling and defueling of aircraft is performed by non-LTP fuel technicians. However, LTP ground mechanics normally assist in such operations. Fire Protection and Emergency Preparedness (1) All personnel involved in aircraft refueling or draining shall dissipate body static potential by gripping the static ground line repeatedly during the entire operations. (2) The aircraft shall be connected to an approved grounding point and/ or bonded as required in the applicable aircraft maintenance manual. (3) Portable fire extinguishers shall be provided. (4) At least two (2) serviceable fire extinguishers with minimum UL rating of not less than 20 B shall be available in the refueling truck. FOD Pouch and Bin Strategy and Corporate Projects (CD) Page 11 Internal (5) During the following situations, an additional (125 lbs.) dry chemical firex and fireguard shall be on standby within 15 meters (50 ft) of the operations. (6) Aircraft refueller truck shall be positioned. (7) Where necessary, NO SMOKING signs shall be provided. Copyright © 2022. All rights reserved. Aircraft Maintenance & Ground Operations Aircraft Jacking Safety Precautions Safety Precautions & Guidelines Jacks shall be operated, maintained, inspected and tested in accordance with manufacturer’s maintenance and operations manuals. Jacks shall be inspected before use to verify lifting capacity, proper functioning of safety locks, condition of pins, and general serviceability. Aircraft Maintenance & Ground Operations Aircraft Jacking Safety Precautions Safety Precautions & Guidelines Before aircraft is raised on jacks, all work stands and other equipment not required to be near the aircraft during jacking shall be removed. Ensure that landing gear safety locks (ground lock pin/sleeves) are installed prior to lowering the aircraft.
