INSTITUTIONS are patterns, norms rules and schemes that govern direct social thought and action. a significant practice, relationship, or organization in a society or culture. TWO TYPES OF INSTITUTIONS 1. Formal Institutions- include the written constitution, laws, policies, rights and regulations enforced by official authorities. Examples: constitution, official law, organizational rules and regulations, and state-enforced laws. 2. Informal Institutions- are equally known but not laid down in writing and they tend to be more persistent than formal. Examples: social norms, traditions, beliefs, attitudes. EXAMPLES OF INSTITUTIONS The role of this institution is to procreates (have children), nurture, and teach values. F A M I L Y EXAMPLES OF INSTITUTIONS This institution answers the unanswerable, establish morality, deal with death and the afterlife. R E L I G I O N EXAMPLES OF INSTITUTIONS This institution is concerned with the production, consumption, and distribution of goods and services;supply E C O N O M Y and demand. EXAMPLES OF INSTITUTIONS This institution is entrusted with making and enforcing the rules of a society as well as with regulating relations with other G O V E R N ME N T societies.
