SUMMARY CHAPTER 9 Employee Welfare Welfare means the physical, mental, moral and emotional well-being of an individual. Employee or labour welfare as defined by ILO is: it includes such services, facilities and amenities as may be established in or in the vicinity of the undertakings to enable the persons employed in them to perform their work in healthy, congenial surroundings and to provide them with amenities conducive to good health and high morale. Welfare measures inside the workplace are neighborhood safety and cleanliness, upkeep of premises, sanitization of workshop, control of effluents, conveniences and comfort t work, rest hours, maintenance of machines and tools, fencing of machines, supply of medicines, notice boards, posters, pictures, and slogans etc. Conveniences include wash basins, bathrooms, waste disposal system, potable drinking water and canteen services. Worker’s health services include factory health centre, dispensary, ambulance, emergency aid, health education, treatment, control of occupational health hazards, health research etc. Women and child services include maternity, creche, childcare, separate lunchrooms, toilets, and family planning services. worker’s recreation and economic services such as cooperatives, loans and financial agents, saving schemes health insurance transport services P.F., gratuity, pension, workmen’ compensation for injury etc. Labour management participation, worker’s education such as circulating library, adult education, daily news review etc. Welfare measures outside workplace includes housing, water, sanitation, waste disposal, roads, lighting, schools, markets, banks, transport and communication, family visiting, security etc. Safety aspects include training in safety, safety measures for physical and mechanical conditions, role of management, unions and employees, safety posters, safety weeks and awards and safety database etc. ______________________________________________________________________ Internal
