SCHOOL TERMS First semester: August – December Second semester:January – May B. CLASS HOURS three-unit subject = 54 hours per semester Mater Dei College, Tubigon, College of Accountancy, Business, and Management Bohol Business & Hospitality C. ATTENDANCE 1. All students are required to attend their classes regularly. 2. A student who arrives in class after the opening prayer is considered late. 3. When the teacher does not arrive on time, students should wait quietly for 15 minutes and after such time, the students can leave the classroom quietly rather than stay and make unnecessary noise. 4. A student who wishes to be excused from classes for a valid reason should secure a written permit from the OSA. 5. For a school activity mandated by the institution and requires the participation of the student, any absence without valid reason is to be fined with an amount agreed by the SSG officers. ABSENCES DUE TO SUSPENSION A student who incurs absences due to “suspension” as a sanction for having violated a school policy, has to make-up for his/her absences. Upon expiration of the suspension period, he/she has to make-up his/her absences by requesting for tutorial lessons with every teacher until lessons missed can be covered. ACADEMIC LOADS In accordance with the regulations of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) no undergraduate student may be permitted to carry a semestral load of more than twenty- one (21) units over and above Religious Education, Physical Education, NSTP and typing subjects, or as prescribed by the approved curriculum in any program of study in a given semester. In exceptional cases, however, upon recommendation of the dean and with the approval of CHED, students may carry a load of more that twenty-one (21) units but not exceeding twenty-four (24) units. Graduating students are given special considerations; they may be allowed to add three (3) more units from the maximum of twenty-one (21) units without CHED approval (or total of 24 units), or up to twenty-eight (28) units with CHED approval. Students who are authorized to carry such an overload are not completely enrolled until their formal request in writing has been approved both by the dean and the regional director of CHED, or his/her duly authorized representative. A freshman is a student who has been admitted into the college upon presentation of his high school credentials. 2. A sophomore is a student who has earned at least 38 units of his/ her course. 3. A junior is a student who has earned at least 75 units of his/ her course. 4. A senior is a student who has earned at least 114 units of his/ her course. A part-time or irregular student is a student who has registered 6 units or less in a given semester. 6. A full-time student is one who registers for 15 or more units in a given semester. 7. A working student/employee is a student who studies and works at the same time for free tuition fees. The school applies the policy of selective retention for entering freshmen. Each college has its own criteria in admitting the students. 2. To maintain high standards of instruction, periodic evaluation of students by department heads, and co-teachers shall be done every semester. 3. To qualify for graduation, applicant should have obtained credit of 30% of the total units of the course in MDC. There will be cut off grades in the admission in every college. A. For the students of College of Education (COE) - student should maintain a general average of 2.3 with no grade below 2.3 in the professional education and specialized subjects to be retained. RETENTION AND RESIDENCY POLICY B. For the students from the College of Arts, Sciences, & Technology (CAST) - particularly the BSCS program, a student should be able to maintain a general average grade of 2.5 in all major subjects. Otherwise the student will be advised to shift to another program. This will apply once the student reaches his/her second year level. For CABM students particularly BSA program - a student must maintain an average grade of not less than 2.0 in all accounting subjects. D. For the College of Criminal justice (CCJ) students - students should maintain passing grades in all subjects. Note: BSN have their own policy standards in addition to these standards applicable. Any student who incurs three (3) failed subjects in a semester shall not be readmitted to the College in the succeeding semesters. 2. CHANGING, DROPPING and WITHDRAWING OF SUBJECTS Students who intend to discontinue their study here at MDC or withdraw some of their subjects, should apply for the withdrawal of the subject(s) by accomplishing the withdrawal form that can be obtained from the Registrar’s office and thereafter, pay the appropriate withdrawal fees. EXAMINATION AND GRADE REPORTS General Examination: Prelim, Midterm, Semi-Final, Final Students who fail to take the final examination or meet the requirements of the course shall be given the mark of NC, NG, Dr., as the case may be. 1. Any provisional, conditional, or temporary grade given at the end of the semester or term for any curriculum subject which is still subject to conversion into another (grade such as “conditioned”) is not allowed. The school may, at its discretion, grant a final grade which does not earn credits (such as “NC” for “No Credit” or “NG” for “No Grade”) in those cases where the student did not take the final examination in the subject and his performance was not considered satisfactory enough to merit a final passing grade, in spite of absence from the final examination. 3. EXAMINATION AND GRADE REPORTS 4. Special test for periodic examinations may be given only to students with excuse absences. The student should take the special exam within (5) working days after the scheduled examination after paying fee of 50 pesos at the cashier. GRADING SYSTEM  Quizzes – short examinations for the purpose of checking up daily preparation of students or following up a previous lesson;  Major Examinations – long examinations given four times in one semester, the preliminary, midterm, semifinal, and final examinations, and two times in summer, the midterm and final examinations;  Participation – other requirements that may include projects, term papers, reading reports, experiments, and the like, together with class participation which includes recitations, homework, seatwork, themes, class reports, laboratory reports, etc. and other important aspects of instruction. The faculty members are given the authority to assign percentages or weights among the components they included in the grading system. A. Names of Student recommended for honors shall be submitted to the Award Committee for review and deliberation. B. Other Honors/Awards. ACADEMIC AWARDS In order to receive the academic awards, the student must 1. Pass all subjects which must be taken only once. Students with failing grades and NG are disqualified from graduating with honors. 2. Obtain the average requirements for honors, provided that he/she has no grade below 1.9 in all academic subjects. 3. Have a minimum of three (3) years for Cum Laude and four (4) years for Magna Cum Laude and Summa Cum Laude Carry 4.Mater the, Tubigon, Dei College full load prescribed by College the curriculum of Accountancy, Business, and Management Bohol Business & Hospitality B. LEADERSHIP AWARD Leadership award is given to any graduating student on the basis of the recommendation of the College chairs, deans and OSAD coordinator subject to final approval of the Awards Committee. In order to receive the leadership award, the student must: 1. Be an SSG , College recognized organization officer for at least two years; 2. Show outstanding leadership in all college activities; 3. Have no grade of 5.0 in all subjects; and 4. Have no violation of code of conduct as stated in the revised student handbook. LOYALTY AWARD MDC Gold Medal is given to any graduating students who have finished elementary, high school and college at the Mater Dei College. Certification is given to any graduating student who had finished two-year course and proceeded to a four-year course at Mater Dei College. The student applies for any of the mentioned awards at the Office of the Dean/Chairman. 2. The Registrar’s office verifies the application by computing the grades of the student-applicant 3. The Dean/chairman finally reviews the application for recommendation to the Awards Committee. 4. The Awards Committee convened to review the application and forwards the same to the College President. 5. Aside from not meeting the general criteria for graduating with honors, the following are also ground for disqualification: a. Failed to attend the said activities, these graduating students are not allowed to attend the Commencement exercises.
