STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURES MANUAL APPARATUS AND EQUIPMENT 207.001 APPARATUS GENERAL GUIDELINES EFFECTIVE: DECEMBER 2007 Current Revision Date: 3/05/19 Author’s Name/Rank: Robert T. Johnson, Senior Administrative Clerk Administrative Support: Next Revision Date: Review Level: 3/05/24 1 PURPOSE The purpose of this policy is to provide general guidelines for use of equipment and apparatus. APPLICATION This policy outlines various Fresno Fire Department (FFD or Department) general guidelines related to the use of apparatus and equipment, as well as direction and further references for the following topics: Equipment Department Staff Vehicles OPERATIONAL POLICY 1. Department equipment and/or apparatus shall not be used other than for Department purposes without permission from the Fire Chief. 2. No person shall ride on fire apparatus while it is in motion without the use of a seatbelt. OPERATIONAL GUIDELINE EQUIPMENT 1. Do not alter the permanent location of firefighting equipment on apparatus without the approval of the Operations Chief. Section 207.001 Page 1 of 3 2. Do not place equipment on an apparatus in such a manner as to cause damage to the equipment or to the finish of the apparatus. 3. The dash of apparatus should remain free of PPE or other equipment to provide clear vision of the driver and prevent damage to the windshield. 4. Equipment in need of repair should be properly labeled with an Administrative Manual, Section 106.048, Wired Repair Tag (FD-37) and sent to Repair and Maintenance Section for service. Items sent for repair should be noted as disbursed in proper format. 5. Persons desiring to purchase obsolete Department equipment, i.e., discarded fire hose, etc., shall be referred to the City of Fresno Purchasing Division. 6. Do not remove equipment or material from the Repair and Maintenance Section without permission of the Fire Equipment Supervisor. DEPARTMENT STAFF VEHICLES 1 On-duty members are responsible for cleaning and servicing staff vehicles housed at their stations on weekends 2. Contact the battalion chief for authorization to use department staff vehicles housed at fire stations on weekends. 3. fuel. Staff vehicles at fire stations should have at least a half tank of 4. Members who are assigned a vehicle are responsible for notifying the Repair and Maintenance Section whenever regular maintenance is due.
