HOFFMAN ESTATES FIRE DEPARTMENT STANDARD OPERATING GUIDELINES SOG Category & Identification Number: EFFECTIVE DATE: RESPONSE GUIDELINES – 016 January 1, 2022 NIMS COMPLIANT SOG Title: General Callback Revision: 6 APPROVED BY: NUMBER OF PAGES: Re-evaluation Date: Alan Wax January 1, 2026 Fire Chief 2 PURPOSE It is the purpose of this guideline to provide for emergency coverage, within the Village of Hoffman Estates, during times when manpower is insufficient to maintain an adequate level of readiness. POLICY It shall be the Hoffman Estates Fire Department’s Policy that all personnel responding to a call back shall follow applicable state laws regarding proper vehicle operation. All traffic control systems, stop signs, and speed limits are to be obeyed in personal vehicles. PROCEDURE During a General Callback situation, the Incident Commander or 610 will request that NWCD initiate a general callback for a specific station or all stations. The number of personnel needed for callback will be determined by the Incident Commander or 610. When station coverage is needed, all personnel receiving the callback text message from NWCD shall contact the Shift Commander or 610, by telephone to verify if a response is necessary. Once a needed response is verified, then personnel should report to their assigned station to pickup their own protective equipment and normal work uniform. A. Once at the station, these personnel will communicate to the Shift Commander or 610 via phone or by radio for assignments. Callback personnel will typically be assigned the following tasks: 1. Assist mutual aid change of quarter’s companies at each station. 2. Bring specific equipment or apparatus to the emergency scene. 3. Place additional reserve apparatus in service if available. 1 B. Specific callback for TRS and SCUBA personnel: During a SCUBA or TRS emergency, the Incident Commander may request additional certified personnel. In order to accomplish this, the Incident Commander will request that NWCD initiate a general callback for these specific personnel. C. Specific callback for Haz-Mat personnel during a Haz-Mat emergency: During a Haz-Mat emergency, the Incident Commander may request additional certified personnel. In order to accomplish this, the Incident Commander will request that NWCD initiate a general callback for these specific personnel. During a Level 2 Haz-Mat emergency, NWCD shall be requested to activate a group callback for all Haz-Mat Technicians. The list of technicians will be supplied by the Haz- Mat Division and be updated semi-annually or as the need arises. D. Specific callback for fire investigation: The Incident Commander may request that a fire investigator respond to the scene for cause and origin determination. Operational Guideline – 013 Fire Investigation Guideline has been provided by the Division Head. The needed investigator may be requested to the fire scene by the Incident Commander, the NWCD, or 610. E. Callback Uniform and Equipment: All shift personnel reporting to a callback of any nature are to be attired in their normal work uniform, or shall change into the normal work uniform upon arriving at their assigned station prior to becoming available for callback duty. Along with this work uniform, each firefighter shall have his own standard protection clothing and any other equipment assigned to him by the department that is relevant to the callback, i.e., TRS equipment for a TRS emergency and diving equipment for a SCUBA emergency.
