Purpose: To set forth Las Vegas Fire & Rescue’s policy on punctual work attendance and provide guidance to those employees whose unexpected absence or tardiness is unavoidable. B. Scope: This information is applicable to all Las Vegas Fire & Rescue employees, except CEA employees, who have separate guidelines. C. Author: The Fire Chief, or designee, will be responsible for the content, revision, and review of these rules and regulations, and will ensure that they are consistent with any valid and applicable bargaining agreements. RESPONSIBILITY A. Employee: It is the responsibility of all employees to be familiar with and comply with these procedures. B. Supervisor: It is the responsibility of all supervisors to apply this regulation as uniformly as possible and to take such action as necessary to ensure all employees are informed as to its requirements. Any special information relative to the performance outlined in this procedure must be readily communicated to all employees (i.e. telephone numbers, extension numbers, etc.). POLICY A. It is the requirement of Las Vegas Fire & Rescue that all employees report to their assigned work locations at the time specified. B. All Las Vegas Fire & Rescue employees whose absence, tardiness or return to duty may impact the scheduling of replacements or holdover of personnel must notify the appropriate supervisor of the impending status change before the start of the scheduled work time in accordance with the following procedures: 130.25 Absence-Tardiness.doc 1. Fire suppression personnel must notify their assigned Battalion Chief at least 1.25 hours before the start of the assigned shift (0615 hours) through Telestaff or at least forty-five (45) minutes before the start of the assigned shift (0645 hours) by phone on the day of their absence. a) Battalion One’s office telephone number is 229-0001. b) Battalion Four’s office telephone number is 229-0004. c) Battalion Ten’s office telephone number is 229-0747. d) If the employee’s assigned Battalion Chief is unavailable, any other on duty Battalion Chief will be contacted. e) Personnel are allowed to report their absence for sick leave before their regularly scheduled workday by changing their work status in the Telestaff system, or by contacting the on duty Battalion Chief from their respective Battalion before 2100 hours daily. f) Personnel returning to duty from extended sick leave, on the job injury leave, light duty, or canceling scheduled vacation or birthday leave are also required to contact the on duty Battalion Chief from their assigned Battalion at least twelve (12) hours before their return to duty date. (1) 2. This procedure may be altered when an employee is sick or injured for an extended period and the employee has worked out an agreeable procedure with the Battalion Chief. Fire investigations personnel must notify the Supervisor of Fire Investigations – Bomb Squad at least 1.25 hours before the start of the assigned shift through Telestaff or at least forty-five (45) minutes before the start of the assigned shift by phone on the day of their absence. a) 3. Page 2 of 3 The Supervisor’s office telephone number is 229-0360. Fire Communications personnel must notify the on-duty Senior Communications Specialist at least ten (10) hours before the start of the scheduled work time through Telestaff or at least forty-five (45) minutes before the start of the assigned shift by phone on the day of their absence. a) The Senior Communication Specialist’s telephone number is 229-0291. 130.25 Absence-Tardiness.doc 4. Fire Prevention personnel must notify their assigned Deputy Fire Marshal at least 1.25 hours before the start of the assigned shift (0545) through Telestaff or at least forty-five (45) minutes before the start of the assigned shift (0615) by phone on the day of their absence. a) C. Page 3 of 3 The Deputy Fire Marshal’s office telephone numbers are 229-0343 and 229-0336. Employees whose absence or tardiness does not require the scheduling of replacement or holdover personnel must notify the appropriate supervisor of the absence at least 45 minutes before the start of the assigned shift or in the case of tardiness as soon as possible after the start of the work shift and before 0900 hours.
