Present the importance of adapting communication strategies to suit different audiences and contexts. essential question How do we determine the appropriate communication strategy according to the situation? communicative strategies 2Q - Topic 1 Ms. Gi-an | Sir Mathew what is a communicative strategy? “A systematic technique that a speaker uses to share messages and express meanings when faced with challenges in communication” (Corder, 1983). nomination A participant in the communication process executes nomination to collaboratively produce and establish a topic. In layman’s terms, simply opening or raising a topic. nomination (EXAMPLE) Have you seen the new movie on Netflix? Its title is “Outside”. restriction Confines the participant within a certain context or topic and limits how they communicate. restriction (EXAMPLE) Today, we will be talking about Speech Acts. Are you familiar with Speech Acts, class? Turn-taking As the term itself implies, it simply refers to giving the other participant(s) the chance to speak. turn-taking (EXAMPLE) The collaboration song of Bruno Mars and Rosé is a bop! Do you agree? topic control Controls and prevents unnecessary interruptions that stray away from the conversation’s topic. Simply put, topic control refers to sticking to the topic. topic control (EXAMPLE) Going back, we do agree that BINI is a very talented group. topic shift or shifting Involves transitioning from one topic to another. topic shift (EXAMPLE) By the way, I am of the opinion that tinola is not delicious. repair Refers to how a participant addresses the communication problems they encounter (e.g. problems in speaking, listening, and comprehending). repair (EXAMPLE) Just to clarify, we will be having a test on Thursday, right?
