GIRLS Grade 6 ISLAMIC STUDIES- UNIT 5, LESSON FOUR, “SCIENTIFIC THINKING” Date: 20/01/ 25 1- How will you explain the principles and foundations of scientific research from the following sayings: i- Wisdom is the target of the believer. Ans- The believer should search to find the truth. ii- Seek knowledge from the time you are in the cradle to the time you reach the grave. Ans- Seeking knowledge is a recommended act for Muslims throughout their life. iii- Seek knowledge even if it is in China. Endure the hardships of travelling for seeking knowledge. 2- Explain the significance of bringing man to account for what he did with his knowledge. Ans- To indicate the importance of applying knowledge in developing the individual, building the society. 3- What are the two requirements of scientific research? Ans-Religious and Civilizational Requirements. 4- Give 3 Muslims who contributed great scientific discoveries. Ans-Abbas Bin Firnas, Jabir Ibn Hayyan, Ibn Al-Nafis. 5- Explain the Hadith “Wisdom is the target of the believer”. Ans- A Believer who seeks knowledge, is merely seeking a missing part of their self, and if they find this knowledge they are looking for, then they deserve it because of the effort they put into pursuit knowledge. 6- Infer the contributions of Muslim scientists in the field of scientific discoveries: 1 a) Abbas Bin Firnas: Ibn Firnas made various contributions in the field of astronomy and engineering. He constructed a device which indicated the motion of the planets and stars in the Universe. In addition, Ibn Firnas came up with a procedure of manufacturing colourless glass and made magnifying lenses for reading, which was called reading stones. b) Jabir Ibn Hayyan: Popularly known as the father of Chemistry, Jabir's works contain the oldest known systematic classification of chemical substances, and the oldest known instructions for deriving an inorganic compound (Sal ammoniac or Ammonium chloride) from organic substances (such as plants, blood, and hair) by chemical means. c) Ibn Al-Nafis: Is popularly known for his areas of work which included Medicine, Surgery, Physiology, anatomy, biology, Islamic Studies, Jurisprudence, and Philosophy. He is mostly famous for being the first to describe the pulmonary circulation of the blood. d) Al-Idrisi: Al-Idrisi worked in the field of Geography, he made the first globe. Al- Idrisi was a 12th-century Arab geographer, cartographer, and scholar. His work influenced both Islamic and European cartography for centuries. e) Ibn Al-Haytham: Ibn Al-Haytham worked in the field of optics; he made the camera. His work in optics influenced both the Islamic world and Europe, laying the foundation for later discoveries in Physics and Vision Science. 7- How can you say that scientific research is a religious and civilizational requirement? Ans- Islam calls for scientific research by encouraging its followers to think and reflect on everything in the universe. Scientific facts facilitate the lives of people and fulfill their needs. It contributes to developing the individual, maintaining a society to achieve its dignity and happiness. ******************************* 2
