We always look at the most recent haidh and tuhr habits New Haidh Habit: 7 days Tuhr Habit: 20 days Example 2- Less than 3 days Days are Haidh Habit: 7 days Tuhr Habit: 20 days calculated by the hour! note the Bleeding started on Tuesday 2 May at 10am time Bleeding continued on Wed 3 May, Thurs 4 May and the last blood was seen on Friday 5 May at 7am. How many days are haidh? What should she do now? Haidh Habit: 7 days Tuhr Habit: 20 days Example 2- Less than 3 days Haidh Habit: 7 days Tuhr Habit: 20 days Bleeding started on Tuesday 2 May at 10am Bleeding continued on Wed 3 May, Thurs 4 May and the last blood was seen on Friday 5 May at 7am. How many days are haidh? The bleeding was for less than 72 hours Question? ○ ○ This will not be regarded as haidh What if we What should we do now? bleed after this? ○ We should make qadha for all salaah missed during these days. This would be regarded as istihaadah Example 4- stop and start Haidh Habit: 7 days Tuhr Habit: 20 days Bleeding started on Tuesday 2 May at 10am Bleeding continued on Wed 3 May, Thurs 4 May and the last blood was seen on Friday 5 May at 7am. However, blood was seen again on Monday 8 May at 5am until Tuesday 9 May at 2pm How many days are haidh? What about the salaah we read in between? Example 4- stop and start Haidh Habit: 7 days Tuhr Habit: 20 days Bleeding started on Tuesday 2 May at 10am Bleeding continued on Wed 3 May, Thurs 4 May and the last blood was seen on Friday 5 May at 7am. However, blood was seen again on Monday 8 May at 5am until Tuesday 9 May at 2pm How many days are haidh? ○ All 7 days are regarded as haidh. What about the salaah we read in between? ○ Eventhough we read salaah, we would not be sinful as we acted on our knowledge at that moment. Example 5- More than 10 days Haidh Habit: 7 days Tuhr Habit: 20 days Bleeding started on Wednesday 29 May at 3pm Bleeding continued until Sunday 9 June 6pm. How many days are haidh? What do we do after 10 days has passed? Question? What if we bleed after this? Example 5- More than 10 days Haidh Habit: 7 days Tuhr Habit: 20 days Bleeding started on Wednesday 29 May at 3pm Bleeding continued until Sunday 9 June 6pm. How many days are haidh? ○ Even though our habit is 7 days, we will continue is a state of haidh until the 10th day. This is because it’s possible that our habit can change. The 10th day would be Saturday 8 June at 3pm. What do we do after 10 days has passed? ○ Since the bleeding continued after 10 days had passed, the extra bleeding (beyond our habit) will all be regarded as istihaada. ○ This means that any salaah or fasts that were missed from day 7 to day 10 would need to be made up as qadha. Example 6- Early Haidh Haidh Habit: 7 days Tuhr Habit: 20 days Bleeding ended on Monday 11 March at 3pm Bleeding started again on Monday 25th March at 4pm Is this haidh? When will it be haidh? Question? What if we bleed after this? Example 6- Early Haidh Haidh Habit: 7 days Tuhr Habit: 20 days Bleeding ended on Monday 11 March at 3pm Bleeding started again on Monday 25th March at 4pm Is this haidh? ○ No. There has to be a minimum of 15 tuhr days between 2 haidh. When will it be haidh? ○ We will look at our tuhr habit. This tells us that our period should have started after 20days. Therefore any bleeding before that is istihaada and any bleeding from “day 20” is haidh. Day 20 would be 31 March at 3pm. At this point we will stop praying and fasting. If the number of days we are early + our haidh habit = 10= istihaadha Istihaadha A person in istihaadha can perform all acts of ibaadha However, at the time of salaah, she should make a fresh wudhu, ensure that a clean sanitary pad is worn. This wudhu would suffice for the duration of that salaah (should she be bleeding continuously) 9-10 Haidh & Salaah To read or not to read? Haidh and Salaah Be mindful ah A women in haidh does not have to perform salaah. Neither does she have to makeof sala times during qadhaa of the salaah which she has missed. haidh. She may not fast, but she will be required to make qadha of her missed fasts. Why do you think this is so? If haidh begins during the time of a specific salaah, and we have not yet read that salaah, no qadhaa is due. ○ Eg: if we begin haidh at 1pm and have not yet prayed Zuhr. It will not be due on us. If haidh ends during a salaah time, that salaah is now compulsory for us to perform. It you’re not sure your haidh has ended at fajr. Your pad remains clean until Asr. This would indicate that tuhr began at fajr. We would need to make qadha of Fajr and Zuhr. Towards the end of haidh, be mindful to check if you are in tuhr at every salaah time to avoid performing qadha. In the example above, we should’ve checked at zuhr and made ghusl. Times of Salaah In your groups, discuss the start and ending times of the 5 daily prayers. You have 5 minutes! Quiz 8 1. Aisha has a haidh habit of 8 days. She bleeds for 5 days and there is no blood for 2 days. She makes ghusl and starts to pray. On day 8 she sees spotting and the bleeding continues until 12 days since the beginning of haidh. What would be regarded as haidh? What should she do about the bleeding from day 8 onwards? 2. Mention the start and ending time of the 5 daily salaah. Quiz 8 1. The entire time from day 1 to day 8 will be regarded as haidh. She will make qadha for the salaah she missed from day 8 to 10. Any bleeding from day 8 onwards would be regarded as istihaada. 2. a. Fajr: subh sadiq until sunrise b. Zuhr: from zawaal until the shadow of an object is 2x its length c. Asr: from when the shadow of an object is 2x its length until sunset d. Maghrib: sunset until the white glow disappears e. Esha: from end of maghrib until subh sadiq 11 Salaah An important part of our deen Importance of Salaah Hafiz Ibn Qayyim writes: “Salaah ensures daily bread, promotes health, drives out diseases, strengthens the heart, brings light and beauty on the face, pleases the soul, refreshes the body, gets rid of laziness, relaxes the mind, feeds the soul, illuminates the heart and guarantees Allah Ta’ala’s favour. It grants protection against Allah Ta’ala’s punishment. It keeps shaytaan away and brings us closer to Allah Ta’ala. In short, salaah is the guarantee for all that is good and a protection against all that is evil for both body and soul, equally in this world and the hereafter.” (Fazaail-e-A’maal - Virtues of Salaah. Pg. 32) Nabi-e-Kareem has said: “If some major sins of a Muslim lands him in Jahannam, the fire would not burn those parts of his body which have touched the ground while he was in sajdah during his salaah.” (Fazaail-e-A’maal –Virtues of Salaah, pg 28) Nabi-e-Kareem has said: “When a person stands in salaah, the gates of Jannah are let open and all the veils between him and Allah Ta’ala are lifted.” (Provided that he does not spoil his salaah) (Fazaail-e-A’maal – Virtues of Salaah, pg 28) Warning for neglecting Salaah As for him who neglects his salaah, he shall meet five types of punishments in this world, three at the time of death, three in the grave and three after resurrection. Those in this world are: He is not blessed in this life, he is deprived of the light with which the faces of the righteous are blessed, he receives no reward for his good practices, his duas are not answered, and he has no share in the duas of the pious. Those at the time of death are: He dies disgracefully, he dies hungry, he dies of such thirst that the water in the oceans of the world will not be able to quench. Those in the grave are: He is squeezed so severely there that the ribs of one side interlace the ribs of the other side, fire is kindled inside his grave and he is rolled on cinders day and night, a serpent with fiery eyes and iron nails equal in length to a day’s journey is let loose on him and shouts with a thundering voice, “My lord has made me in charge of punishing you till sunrise for neglecting Fajr, till Asr for neglecting Zuhr, till sunset for neglecting Asr, till Esha for neglecting Maghrib and till dawn for neglecting Esha.” The serpent will keep on punishing him in this way until the Day of Qiyaamah. Each blow pushes him to a depth of seventy arm’s length. Those after resurrection are: His reckoning will be extremely difficult, Allah Ta’ala will be angry with him and he will be thrown into the fire. According to one report, he will have the following three lines written on his forehead: “O you who neglected Allah Ta’ala’s duty” “O you who has deserved Allah Ta’ala’s wrath” “Now despair of Allah Ta’ala’s mercy as you neglected your duty to Allah Ta’ala” Sahib Tarteeb A person who has 5 or less Salaah as Qadha is known as “Sahib Tarteeb” (the word tarteeb means sequence.order) This is an honour. If such a person misses a salaah, they should make qadha of the missed prayers in order. The qadha should also be performed before the next salaah is due. Eg a sahib tarteeb misses Fajr. They should perform qadha of fajr before performing Zuhr for that day. Eg a sahib tarteeb missed Fajr and Zuhr. They should perform Qadha of fajr first, then zuhr, then perform Asr salaah for the day. If a person forget that they had qadha, they can perform it when they remember. If the duration to perform the salaah of the time is very short, and we may miss salaah, then the salaah due at that time should be performed and the qadha later A person who owes more than 6 salaah is not sahib tarteeb Quiz 9 1. What rulings pertain to such a person? a. If they need to pray qadha, they should do so before reading the fardh salaah of the time 3. Mention 3 benefits of salaah? a. Gives peace, great rewards, turns us away from sin etc Qadha Salaah Qadha of salaah is a means of performing the salaah we have missed. It is sinful to deliberately not perform salaah. Allah forgives us for those times when we may have forgotten Allah through his mercy, has given us the ease by allowing us to make up for our missed salaah. Qadha salaah is performed of the Fardh and witr Salaah which we miss. A person who misses fajr salaah and perform qadha before zuhr, should perform qadha of both the sunnah and fardh rakaats. This is due to the great importance placed upon the 2 sunnah of fajr by the Prophet (saw) Qadha salaah can be performed at any time, except noon, sunrise and sunset. We can perform qadha salaah after fajr and asr, before the forbidden times set in. While qadha salaah is valid, it does not have the same blessing and rewards as performing salaah at its prescribed times.
