Night-Time/Limited Visibility/Snow
- In dark or snow-covered areas, IC should advise homeowners and neighbors of potential line down and ask them to stay inside if attempting to locate wire down would endanger TFD members.
- IC should cordon off area with caution tape and return to service if no fire or arcing present.
- If arcing was present in an area previously but not currently, IC should cordon off area with tape and advise owner to stay clear of area and any fences, considering pet safety.
- If arcing or intermittent arcing from downed line, IC should notify homeowners and neighbors, protect scene with caution tape, and remain on scene unless higher priority call occurs.
When to Notify the Assistant Chief
- IC should contact assistant chief for high priority/expedited response from PSO in certain situations, including:
- Waiting over one hour for PSO to arrive on scene.
- Person in contact with energized lines or objects.
- Fire attack or property conservation activities halted due to electrical dangers.
- MVC with energized lines down on vehicle with people inside.
- Line down on major arterial street or hanging low enough to interfere with traffic.
- IC should switch to Subfleet B and ask FAO to relay brief status to assistant chief.
- Assistant chief will call requesting company back on Subfleet A with status report when possible.
