**[BRIEF HISTORY OF THE UNIVERSITY OF ANTIQUE]** Upon the onset of the UA's predecessor on January 19, 1954, the Antique School of Arts and Trades or ASAT through Republic Act (R.A.) 851, the journey towards a strong learning center and responsive human resource management and development systems yearns to emerge. Classes were formally opened on July 1, 1954 with 188 Secondary trade and 53 Trade-Technical Education students. The first courses offered were Ceramics, Automechanics, Furniture and Cabinet-Making, Building Construction, and Food Trades. In 1968, Bachelor of Science in Industrial Education was offered, Bachelor of Science in Practical Education in 1976, and in 1970, the Graduate School offered the degree of Master of Arts in teaching Vocational Education (MATVE). From a building of five rooms made of nipa and bamboo which housed its personnel and students, it later grew and became Polytechnic State College of Antique (PSCA) in 1982 by virtue of Batas Pambansa Bilang (B.P.) 281. This conversion was fueled by the fact that it is the only state owned institution offering quality tertiary education for personal development, professional enhancement, and technological efficiency of the youth of the province of Antique. As per CHED Memorandum Order No. 27, series of 2000, it sanctioned the integration of Antique College of Agriculture (ACA) and Tario Lim Memorial Antique School of Fisheries (TLMASOF) with Polytechnic State College of Antique which supp-orted by Board of Trustees Resolution No. 118, series of 2000 approved on November 23, 2000. PSCA was converted to a university, named as University of Antique in the year 2009 through the enactment of R.A. 9746. The first administrator was Mr. Fermin Taruc, Sr. and followed by Mr. Hilarion Agustin, Mr. Gil H. Tenefrancia, Mr. Rogelio Cachuela, Mr. Victor Blacer, Mr. Avelino Asuncion, Dr. Paulino Villagonzalo, Mr. Salvador Navarro, Mr. Olimpio Madlangbayan (OIC), and Mr. Adriano S. Sullesta. Dr. Godofredo E. Gallega, is the first President of Polytechnic State College of Antique (PSCA). When his term as President ended, he sought for TUP Presidency and was accepted. Thus, Dr. Benny A. Palma, the President of Aklan State University served as OIC President of the college for six (6) months. The Board then elected Dr. Victor E. Navarra as the first president of the university. He was re-appointed as University President in the year 2013. Thereon, the Board of Regents of the University of Antique appointed Dr. Ronilo A. Soriano, OIC, Office of the President on December 16, 2017 in the retirement of Dr. Navarra. On January 26, 2018, Dr. Pablo S. Crespo Jr. was elected and appointed as the second President of University of Antique with a four (4) year term or until January 25, 2022 without prejudice for another re-appointment. With commendable performance, Dr. Crespo was approved for second term as University President on March 10, 2022 until 2026. This is an attestation of his sincere and dedicated leadership with vision for UA towards touching lives and building dynamic and responsible communities. After years of its university hood, the University of Antique is still claiming the title as the sole University in the Province of Antique. It is comprised of three (3) campuses, the UA Main Campus situated at Sibalom with its extension campuses in Caluya and Libertad, Antique and its external campuses the UA Hamtic Campus located at Guintas, Hamtic, Antique, and the UA Tario-Lim-Memorial Campus at Tibiao, Antique. The University of Antique (UA) main campus is located in an 11.4- hectare lot in the town proper of Sibalom, Antique, and is known to be the center of technology education in the province. It offers 14 graduate studies programs, 51 degree courses, and Laboratory High School. On which, two additional external campuses are added namely, University of Antique-Libertad Extension Campus and University of Antique-Caluya Extension Campuses by virtue of with 2 degree courses and 3 degree courses offered respectively. University of Antique, Hamtic Campus is located in Guintas, Hamtic, Antique, with an area of 37.62 hectares, and in Nagbangi I, San Remigio, Antique, with an area of 104 hectares. The land is suitable for farming and forestry. This external campus offers 11 degree programs. University of Antique, Tario-Lim Memorial Campus occupies a 14-hectare lot in the town proper of Tibiao, Antique, and a three-hectare brackish water fishpond at Jinalinan, Barbaza, Antique. After decades of proving its leadership in the field of fisheries, TLMC College of Fisheries has been declared as the Provincial Fishery Institute for the development of the aquaculture industry of Antique. Right now, the UA TLMC offers 11 degree programs. Determined in transforming lives and building communities, the University has produced significant number of graduates who are now part of the mainstream in the practice of their profession and has set the standards in refining the thread of complexities by setting the definition of success in the new level.
