BRIEF HISTORY OF THE UNIVERSITY (Included here are highlights of the history of the university related to the BSN Program) Humble Beginnings June 1929 – Dr. Hilarion T. Feliciano and his wife, Dona Maria Mercado Feliciano founded the Kolambugan Academy in Kolambugan, Lanao del Norte as the first private high school in this part of the country. Two years later, the school site was transferred to Misamis (now Ozamiz City) so that the school could serve a bigger segment of the population. The school was renamed Misamis Institute. 1940 – 1969 1946 School reopened after the Second World War Government recognition obtained for the Elementary and Secondary courses 1955 School was renamed as Misamis Colleges 1967 Dr. Hilarion T. Feliciano acquired Mindanao Academy in Oroquieta City and administered the school as an extension of Misamis Colleges. In 1982, the school was renamed Misamis University, Oroquieta unit. 1970 – 1989 1975 BS Nursing and Midwifery was opened. 1977 Institution was granted the university status. Dr. Jaime M. Feliciano was installed the first President of Misamis University. 1979 BS Mechanical, Electrical Engineering and Nursing gained government recognition 1984 (March 30, 1984) Dr. Nestor Feliciano took the helm of the University and was installed the Second President of the university. 1989 Instructional Media Center (IMC) was constructed. 1990 – 1999 SY 1993-1994 Offered the following courses: Master of Arts in Nursing, BS Marine Transportation, BS Marine Engineering, BS Computer Engineering, BS Computer Science. 1995 Master in Nursing was offered. BS Physical Therapy and BS Medical Technology were granted Government Recognition. To complement the paramedical courses offered by the institution, the university built Misamis University Medical Center (MUMC). The Medical Center provides an excellent training for students in Nursing, Midwifery, Medical Therapy, Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy. 1999 College of Maritime Education was certified by Det Norske Veritas (DNV) as having complied with the International Standard for Maritime Education. 2000 – 2010 2003 MU was granted Deregulated Status by CHED 2005 The university was certified by Det Norske Veritas (DNV), The Netherlands as having conformed to the Quality Management System set forth in ISO 9001:2000 standard in full scope. 2006 Dr. Karen Belina Feliciano De Leon became the Third President of Misamis University 2010 The university was certified to ISO 9001:2008 Standard. MUMC was also awarded by PhilHealth as the Center of Quality in health care services. The MU Manor, a teaching hotel was opened for the BSHRM students and to the public. 2011 – Present 2011 Provision of new offices and classrooms; laboratories were upgraded 2015 Awarded as Centers for Development for Teacher Education, Information Technology and Criminology 2016 CHED granted the university a DEREGULATED Status Recipient of awards by the Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities (PACUCOA) as having the most number of accredited programs 2017 ISO 9001:2005 certified 2017 CHED granted the university an AUTONOMOUS STATUS
