RECREATION Learning Objectives: Familiarize with the concepts and idea of recreation. Identify the different types and classifications of recreation. Discuss the nature of different recreational activities Answer a short test on recreation. LEISURE Leisure Free time Time for enjoyment Time free from work and, or other responsibilities and tasks RECREATION Recreation Recreation is derived from the Latin word, “recreare” which means to be refreshed, to relax, or to enjoy. Recreation Is an activity of leisure Activity done for enjoyment Often done for enjoyment, amusement, pleasure and are considered to be fun. Leisure Things that you do primarily for relaxation and pleasure, and which don’t involve much work. These activities could be very passive requiring little or no physical activity, and you can do them by yourself if you don’t want to do it with others. Recreation Experiences or organized activities that you actively participate in with others, to have fun and enjoy life during your free time. This includes experiences that require physical activity and interactions and playing with other people. RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES Recreational Activity Any activity that takes place during your free time (leisure) is referred to as recreation. It does not follow standard rules; it can be done anywhere; and most of all, it gives enjoyment and self-satisfaction. Recreational Activity Participation in recreational activities varies from one person to another depending on one’s intention, reason, or belief. TYPES OF RECREATION INDOOR & OURDOOR Indoor Recreation Refers to activities which are done inside an enclosed structures like houses and gymnasiums. Indoor Recreation Card Games Board Games Video Games Watching Movies / Documentaries / Vlogs / Game Shows Karaoke / Singing Making Art / Drawing / Craft Making / Pottery / Knitting Playing Musical Instruments Indoor Recreation Dancing Indoor Exercises (Yoga, Pilates, Aerobics, etc) Target Practice Games (Darts, Archery, Shooting, etc) Guessing Games (Charades, Pictionary, Who am I?, etc) Indoor sports Outdoor Recreation Refers to activities which are done outside the building or structure. Outdoor Recreation Running, jogging and trail running Hiking Walking Camping Swimming Biking Fishing Sports: Golf, Volleyball, Basketball, Tennis, Soccer Games: Palarong Pinoy, Hot Potato, etc. CLASSIFICATIONS OF RECREATION SPECTATOR & PARTICIPANT TYPE SPECTATOR People spending their time watching the event and derive enjoyment from it. PARTICIPANT People gain enjoyment by joining the activity and not just watching it. ACTIVE AND PASSIVE ACTIVE include all outdoor recreational activities which involve field and court games. Activities requiring facilites and physical effort. PASSIVE recreational activities that do not require prepared facilities and do not have excessive movement in performing the task. PHYSICAL & MENTAL ACTIVITY PHYSICAL ACTIVITY People exert effort and bodily functions in performing the task. MENTAL ACTIVITY In this activity, the mind works more and less body movement. What are the benefits of recreational activities? It relaxes the mind and body after a long day. Help manage stress. It creates an opportunity for sociability, interaction, and muscle development, as well asincreased strength and confidence.
