Recognize the needs of others in real life and in meaningful ways. The Choice What is lifestyle? According to National Library of Medicine, lifestyle is referred to the characteristics of inhabitants of a region in a special time and place. It includes day to day behaviors and functions of individuals, job, activities, fun and diet. What will happen if we have a poor lifestyle? LIFESTYLE DISEASES LIFESTYLE DISEASES ❑ Lifestyle diseases are diseases with the way person or group of people lives. ❑ Lifestyle diseases include heart diseases, stroke, obesity and diabetes, smoking, alcohol, and drug abuse. LIFESTYLE DISEASES ❑ Regular physical activity helps prevent diseases. ❑ With good diet and scheduled exercise routine, a person can live a healthy lifestyle with a promise of longevity. OBESITY ❑ It is the most common problem among children and adolescents. ❑ It is a medical condition in which excess body fat has accumulated to the extent that it may have negative effect on health. OBESITY ❑ In the year 2015, obesity was about 30% among the fast growing number of diseases affecting about 3 out of 10 adults. OBESITY ❑ Body Mass Index (BMI) is a simple index of weight-for-height that is commonly used to classify overweight and obesity. ❑ It is defined as a person’s weight in kilograms divided by the square of his height in meters (kg/m2). POOR NUTRITION ❑ Poor nutrition is also a problem among the rich since they can afford to eat whatever and whenever they please. DIABETES ❑ Another disease is diabetes, it affects the young in this generation. ❑ Diabetes happens when islet cells in the pancreas are damaged and do not produce enough insulin. DIABETES ❑ Insulin is a hormone made by the pancreas that allows the body to use sugar from carbohydrates and the other foods we eat. ❑ Insulin helps our blood sugar level from getting to high or too low. If uncontrolled, diabetes occurs.
