The history and philosophy of the relationship between criminal justice agencies and the community as well as contemporary approaches to crime reduction will be discussed. The various community concerns as well as the internal and external barriers which prevent a collaborative relationship will be examined in detail. Prominence is placed on utilizing the resources of the criminal justice agencies in order to make recommendations for ways of working together to promote community crime prevention and reduction.
