Pin Routers Two kinds of pin routers o Overhead Pin  It is the router that is overhead o Inverted Pin  The router is below the table o Both are becoming obsolete due to the prevalence of more and less expense CNC machines Overhead pin router o Difficult to guard o Variable speed o Usually has an air blower o Has 2 adjustments  Quill  Table height o Tables often tilt o Motor and cutting bit are above the table o Template is run along the pin that raises up from the table Inverted pin router o Safer machine  Wood covers the cutting bit most of the time  Quill is under the table and is raised up o Easier to follow the template  Can see the track  Captured track Pin has material on either side Easier to follow More time required to fabricate  Uncaptured track Harder to follow Pin can wander o Can be used as a router table o Tables don’t tilt o Can control how fast the bit comes up and down o Flat belt drive from motor  Tracks as quill moves up and down  Most other machines have V-belts o Effective dust collection  Down draft into table
