University of Al-Ameed College of Medicine Department of anatomy and histology MICROSCOPE MSc. Zainab. R. Radhi MICROSCOPE Microscope - A microscope (Greek: mikron = small and Scopeos = to look). - MICROSCOPE: Is an instrument for viewing objects that are too small to be seen by the naked or unaided eye. Basic Microscope Parts INTRODUCING THE ARM AND BINTRODUCING THE ARM AND BASE Arm Supports the body tube. Used to carry the microscope. Base Bottom part of the microscope often shaped like a horseshoe. SSTAGE AND STAGE CLIPS Stage Place where the object you are looking at is placed (Specimen). Stage Clips Holds down the slide on the stage. EYEPIECE (OCULAR LENS) AND BODY TUBE Eyepiece The lens you look through that magnifies the specimen. Body Tube The hollow tube through which light passes. It holds the lenses apart. COURSE COURSE AND FINE FOCUSNE FOCUS Course Focus Raises or lowers the Body Tube to focus Fine Focus Raises and lowers the Body Tube and used to bring objects into focus. NOSEPIECE NOSEPIECE The NOSEPIECE is the round part that holds the OBJECTIVE LENSES apart. LOW POWER/HIGH POWER OBJECTIVE LENSESS Low Power Objective Magnifies the specimen at a lower power High Power Objective Magnifies the specimen at a Higher power Diaphrdiaphragm And Light Sourcegand LIGHT SOURCE Diaphragm Changes the amount of light reaching the objective lenses. Located under the Stage. Light Source Located beneath the Stage and Diaphragm. Sends light towards the hole in the stage. TYPE OF MICROSCOPEE 1- compound light microscope :is the most common microscope used in microbiology. It consists of two lens systems (combination of lenses) to magnify the image . 2- Light microscopy :A- Bright field microscopy:This is the commonly used type of microscope. In bright field microscopy the field of view is brightly it so that organisms and other structures are visible against it because of their different densities.his is the commonly used type of microscope. In bright field microscopy the field of view is brightly it so that organisms and other structures are visible against it because of their different densities. B-Dark field microscopy In dark field microscopy the field of view is dark and the organisms are illuminated. c- Phase-contrast microscopy Phase-contrast microscopy allows the examination of live unstained organisms. 3MICROSCOPES 3-ELECTRON Electron microscopes A- transmission electron microscopes.(TEM) B- scanning electron microscopes.(SEM) . 4- Fluorescence microscopy 5- Immunofluoresence microscopy 6- Time lapse microscope Using \ Blood cell Microscopes to see
