## المحاضرة الثانية Lecture 2 **Objectives:** * Translator's main job: نقل روح النص to convey the spirit of the text. * Different techniques of translation. **Theoretical Section:** * The translator acts as a mediator between the source text and the target text. * He is to bridge the gap between the text and the reader. **Rules of Translation:** * Avoid literal translation and focus on conveying the meaning. * Example: * Blood bath: حمام الدم (literal) vs. مجزرة (suggestive) * Highly evaluate: يشن عاليا (literal) vs. عدد و بشده (suggestive) * Friendly fire: نيران صدیقه (literal) vs. به خطأ (suggestive) * Tomato Warfare: حرب الطماطم (literal) vs. حرب الطعام (suggestive) ## بعض دول أمريكا الجنوبية التي يقوم اقتصادها على زراعة الموز. * **Banana Republics** - This term is used to refer to countries whose economy is based on banana plantations and lacks political stability and prosperity. ## النت مستعمل في صناعة أسلحة الدمار الشامل * **The yellow Cake**: This is one of the primary compounds used in the production of yellow cake uranium used for nuclear bombs. ## فضيحة غزو العراق * **Iraq Gate**: This refers to the controversial circumstances relating to the invasion of Iraq, particularly the false claims of Iraq possessing weapons of mass destruction used as justification for invading the country. ## سياسة إعادة العلاقات * **Ping Pong policy**: This refers to the policy of diplomatic engagement and opening up relations between the United States and China that was initiated in 1971. In a period of intense tension, the policy aimed at strengthening relations by relying on cultural interaction, through the use of ping-pong as a vehicle for communication. ## هيمنه التفافيه الامريكية * **Pizza policy**: This policy refers to the US's dominant influence in the world affairs.
