DICTIONARY Stress involves changes affecting nearly every system of the body, influencing how people feel and behave TYPE OF STRESSORS Stressors can be internal (coming from inside of the body) and exteral (coming from outside of the body). MEANING OF “STRESS”......as it is currently used was coined by Hans Selye in 1936, who proposed the 'General Adaptation Syndrome' (GAS) in 1935, in which stress defined it as HANS SELYE (1907-1982) “The non-specific response of the body was a pioneering Hungarian-Canadian to any demand for change” Endocrinologist STAGES OF GENERAL ADAPTATION SYNDROME (GAS) ALARM - when one feels threatened, activation of the flight or fight reaction. RESISTANCE - mobilization of resourses to solve the problem, continued stress causes adaptation. EXHAUSTION - adaptation fails and level of fnction decreases. THE FORM OF THE STRESS DISTRESS AND EUSTRESS DISTRESS result from too much pressure or EUSTRESS result help one’s focus and trauma, when one’s don’t know how to deal with it. concentrate better on aim. NEUSTRESS NEUSTRESS is, just like it sounds, rather neutral. It has little impact, or lasting effects, one way or the other. It might be upsetting for others, in another location or context, but has little measurable effect on your life. For example, it is missing the bus or forgetting to get to lunch on time.
