TO ARGUE prove or disprove a specific idea or point to report findings in research endeavors to discuss a concept with a greater populace to formulate a solution to a problem to evaluate programs or personnel What are the features of academic writing? Academic writing has its FEATURES Formality Objectivity (impersonal) Structure Hedging FORMALITY avoids conversational language and informal vocabulary avoid contractions, figurative language, slang or colloquial expressions FORMALITY observe rules in writing consider the type, purpose, and audience OBJECTIVITY (IMPERSONAL) emphasizes objects, facts, ideas, and avoids, direct reference to people or emotions.
