Quantitative Methodologies 2 – Part 2 & Project Part A Report (Week 7) CMM317/CMM502 Research Methods Dr Anne Moorhead Welcome & Introductions Any questions from previous weeks’ materials – general questions Aim / Learning Outcome To be aware of the principles of quantitative research 2 & Project Part A Report Outline Data analysis - Statistical tests Presenting quantitative data Project Part A Recap – Quantitative Research ‘…emphasises quantification in the collection and analysis of data’ (Bryman, 2016; Clark et al. 2021) A deductive approach to relationship between theory and research – testing theories Positivist in orientation – focus on experimentation and testing Views social reality as objective Make generalisations about a population based upon a sample SPSS Statistical Software Package – Statistical Package for the Social Sciences – SPSS (version 29.0) Please Note: Students can download the SPSS programme via Portal – see instructions on Blackboard (N.B. not compatible for Chrome Book) Data Analysis A result is called statistically significant if it is unlikely to have occurred by chance "A statistically significant difference" simply means there is statistical evidence that there is a difference; it does not mean the difference is necessarily large, important, or significant in the common meaning of the word The P value is the probability that observed differences occurred due to random differences Level of Significance = P
