Comparative education in the third millennium The global The global / Comparative context in world-class education: a the twenty- education new vision first system century 2- The global / world-class education system Global Education System: The complex environment(economic, digital, cultural, demographic and environmental forces) presents an opportunity and a challenge. for Young people today must not only learn to participate in a more interconnected world but also appreciate and benefit from cultural differences. the combination of educational systems –because of melting of many nationalities in the global community- led to the emergence of what is known as the global education system, which can be addressed through the following dimensions: Dr. doaa goher Dimensions of the global education system 1- Learning skills of twenty-first century. global competencies(Cs) (Collaboration- critical thinking- creativity) The implementation of twenty-first century skills requires radical reforms in education systems. There are nine common trends of these reforms at the macro, meso, site, and operational levels. Levels of reforms in education systems + trends The macro-level ✓Re-establishing a new national vision and educational aims. ✓ Restructuring an education system at different levels. ✓Restructuring market-driving, privatizing, and diversifying education. the meso-level ✓ increasing parental and community involvement in education and management. the site-level Ensuring education quality, standards, and accountability. increasing decentralization and school-based management. Enhancing teacher quality and the continuous lifelong professional development of teachers and principals. the operational level ✓ Using information technology in learning and teaching, applying new technologies in management. ✓making a paradigm shift in learning, teaching, and assessment. Every wave of reform works inside its paradigm ( about the nature of education- formulating initiatives related to change the educational practices at all levels. 2- The third-wave paradigm of education. The Key features third-wave paradigm of education 1. Assumption about Environment: ✓ Fast-changing society with globalization. ✓ technology advances. ✓ A lifelong learning and multiple-development society 2- Reform Movements: World-Class Education Movements(sustainable forms of development of students and the society for the future in globalization). 3- Conception of Effectiveness: Future Effectiveness(development of individuals and the society). 2- The third-wave paradigm of education. The Key features third-wave paradigm of education 4- Role of Education Institution: Facilitating Role to achieve sustainable forms of development of students and the society in a context of globalization and change. 5- Nature of Learning: A process whereby students develop contextualized multiple intelligences (CMI) and other twenty-century competences for multiple and sustainable forms of development. 6- Nature of Teaching: A process of facilitating capacity building for multiple and sustainable forms of development of students and the society for the future. The role of the teacher is that of a facilitator of students’ multiple and sustainable forms of development. 3- Effects of the third wave paradigm of education on schools Schools have now ceased to be an institution established and overseen only by the state; they have transformed into institutions founded and administered by the will of society itself. Schools’ modern functions of cultivating individuals and citizens and raising manpower have also evolved. The hierarchical, bureaucratic, and dominant institutional structure and construct of schools have changed. Schools’ teacher/topic-centered learning-teaching processes, formed at the will of the state, have taken a new form that places society at the forefront. Teacher and student mobility has turned all schools into multicultural environments.
