Bamboo, a fast-growing and versatile grass, has been an integral part of human life for thousands of years. Found in diverse climates, from tropical jungles to mountainous regions, bamboo ranges from small ornamental species to towering timber varieties over 100 feet tall which are used for making construction tools, furniture, musical instruments and many more. WHAT IS BAMBOO FIBRE? Bamboo fiber is a natural or regenerated fiber made from the pulp of bamboo plants. It can be produced mechanically, like linen, or chemically, like rayon, and is used to create soft, breathable, and eco-friendly textiles for clothing, home products, and more. HISTORY The history of bamboo fiber dates back to the Han Dynasty in China (202 BCE–220 CE), where bamboo was first used to create paper by breaking it down into fibers. This early process showcased bamboo's potential for fiber extraction, laying the foundation for its future use in textiles. In the mid-20th century, the success of regenerated fibers like rayon inspired research into bamboo’s cellulose-rich pulp. By the 1990s, Chinese scientists developed a process to convert bamboo into viscose rayon through hydrolysis and bleaching. This process turned bamboo into soft, breathable, and eco- friendly fabric. Bamboo fiber quickly gained popularity in clothing, home textiles, and hygiene products due to its sustainability. Recent advancements have focused on sustainability, including mechanical processing techniques for bamboo linen and closed-loop chemical processes to reduce environmental impact. Today, bamboo fiber is celebrated for its versatility, softness, and eco-friendliness..
