ROLES OF DIFFERENT PHARMACY PERSONNEL Pharmacy Support Personnel These are persons performing support functions, particularly in the nontechnical or professional aspect of the pharmacy practice. They shall undergo a comprehensive standardized training program accredited by the PRC-Board of Pharmacy with APO and other concerned government agencies. Competency skills are guided by the training regulations of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), Philippine Pharmacists Association (PPhA) and the Hygieian Institute for Education, Research and Training. Importance of PSP Roles in the Dispensing Process Advancing the pharmaceutical industry means advancing the services that pharmacies provide to their clients and patients. Dispensing of medical supplies being distributed among pharmacy support personnel improves the system of serving clients and patients. It also provides a more responsive atmosphere in dispensing with more people involved in receiving and handling prescriptions under the supervision of a registered pharmacist. Pharmacy Aide A person who assists the pharmacist in the different aspects of pharmacy operation based on established standard operating procedures and processes, with a very minimal degree of independence or decision-making and without direct interaction with patients. They can clean work areas, answer phone calls and forward calls or messages to the pharmacist, assist in placing of prices on products, assist in placing of prices on products, assist in stocking of products in the shelves and warehouse, file documents on orders, deliveries, sales and other tasks assigned by the pharmacist. Pharmacy Assistant A person who assists the pharmacist in different aspects of pharmacy operation based on established SOPs and processes, with a minimum degree of independence or decision making and may have supervised interaction with patients. Develop prescribed product, attain product from shelf, count specified quantity, place drug in apt container and label on items to be checked by pharmacist. Ensure to package product after it is checked by pharmacist. Perform drug scan, place it in bag having printed paperwork as well as receipt. Support pharmacists to prepare and dispense prescriptions. Ensure pharmacy is always well arranged and clean. Compile everyday statistics like number of patients asking for prescriptions, new received prescriptions and refill orders number. Maintain and update records of prescription, SCD and PWD Respond to telephone calls, provide general information and route varied calls to apt party. Support pharmacist with all inventory through counting drugs plus supplies. Pharmacy Technician A person who assists in compounding and dispensing of medicines in community, hospital, institutional and industrial settings, or engaged in other activities under the supervision of the pharmacist. They are senior members of the pharmacy support personnel who work closely and directly under the supervision of the registered pharmacist in a particular drugstore. They are tasked to manage and prepare the supply of medicines Work directly in the preparations of the prescriptions. Filling of prescription drugs under the direct supervision of a pharmacist. Handle and control pharmaceutical products, arranges the display of the pharmaceutical products. Prepares the product label, compounds formulations and dispenses both OTC and prescription products. Stock Analyst/Stock Inventory Clerk The Store Inventory Clerk is responsible of receiving, monitoring and complete documentation deliveries and proper inventory management to control damages and losses. Provides timely and complete transfer of products from storage to selling area. Regularly monitors stock availability. Check completeness and quality of delivers products and follows proper procedure in receiving products. Strictly monitors shelf life and expiration of stocks. Complies with all set customer service standards. Prepares and submits list of "out of stock" and "critical stocks”. Completely accounts all stocks before transferred to the selling area.
