PRACTICAL RESEARCH 2 Statement of the Problem Statement of the Problem The portion of the research paper where the problem that is going to be investigated or addressed is formally stated. This is also where the researchers can specify what they wanted to be answered in the study. Research Questions These help clarify and specify the research problem. These can also be considered as sub-problems of the main research problem and are usually informative in nature. These specify the method of collecting and analyzing data, and the type of data to be collected when exploring a research problem. Characteristics of Good Research Questions 1. Feasible Consider the amount of time, energy, money, respondents. 2. Clear The clarity of how the questions are stated lead to agreement of meaning of the readers of your study. Characteristics of Good Research Questions 3. Significant Make sure that the research is important to ask or is relevant. It should have a positive contribution to society. 4. Ethical Always consider the welfare of people, animals, or whoever is involved in the study. Avoid inflicting physical or psychological harm to those involved if possible. Formulating Research Questions Research questions are generally classified into two types: 1. General – derived from the research problem 2. Specific – anchored on the general research problem
