RVFD Policy # 5118 December 15, 2003 Page 1 of 2 VEHICLE EXTRICATION TRAINING AT THE STATION LEVEL I. PURPOSE This policy establishes the Rockville Volunteer Fire Department (RVFD) procedure for training on donated vehicles at the station level. II. APPLICABILITY This RVFD policy shall be used by all personnel involved in vehicle training at the station level. III. POLICY A. Obtain a copy of the vehicle title. Have title signed over to the RVFD. File the title with the Training Officer. B. Complete the RVFD vehicle donation form. File a copy with the Training Officer. C. Advise the President and the Training Officer that the vehicle is now on station property. D. Prepare vehicle for training exercise. 1. Remove battery – to maintenance division for recycle 2. Remove fuel tank – discard gasoline with PSTA 3. Drain vehicle of all fluids – oil & antifreeze to maintenance division for recycle 4. Waste fluids should be given to the maintenance division for proper disposal 5. Have absorbent readily available 6. If vehicle will be placed on side, the oil dipstick should be located on the high side 7. Attempt to keep track of valve stems so tires can be re-inflated RVFD Policy # 5118 December 15, 2003 Page 2 of 2 E. No burning will be permitted except for demonstration purposes only, such as “Open House” day. A burn permit shall be required. Plywood sheets will be placed under the vehicle to be burned so as not to damage the asphalt with heat. F. The vehicle must be removed within 72 (seventy-two) hours after the training exercise. Arrangements shall be made for the vehicle’s removal prior to scheduling any training. G. The vehicle shall not remain on the station lot for more than 30 days. H. The area where the vehicle training exercise occurred shall be thoroughly cleaned at the end of the drill and after the vehicle has been towed. There shall be no glass or car fragments remaining on the ground after the cleanup. I. An officer/designee will be assigned by the Training Officer to each training exercise to ensure compliance with this policy. J. A brief lesson plan on the planned training exercise shall be submitted to the Training Officer 3 days prior to the exercise for review. K. The Safety Officer will be available as necessary to provide information and assistance to officers and firefighters in order to identify safety and health hazards. Eric N. Bernard, President W.
