SHERIFF’S POLICY MANUAL 3.14 DEMOTION/TRANSFER: A. Demotion: 1. Demotions are appointments to positions with lower maximum pay rates than an employee's current job classification. 2. Demotions may be at an employee's convenience (wanting to change work locations, etc.) or management's convenience (employee unable to satisfactorily perform at higher level, etc.). 3. Demoted employees will be paid at a rate within the approved range for the lower classification. 4. Pay rates will be set by the Sheriff in consultation with applicable chain of command, taking into consideration reasons for the demotion. 5. Demotions may be subject to satisfactory completion of at least a six- month probationary period. B. Transfer: 1. Employees may be transferred to other departments/bureaus/divisions with the same job classification or appointed to different classifications with the same pay range. Such transfers will not change the employee's pay range and step or annual increase date. 2. Employees must be qualified for the transferred position. 3. Transfers may be subject to the satisfactory completion of at least a six- month probationary period if the transfer is to a job classification not in the employee's present job classification series. 3.14 10/01/2008 SHERIFF’S POLICY MANUAL THIS PAGE INTENTIONALLY LEFT BLANK 3.14 10/01/2008
