Demotion

  • A demotion is an appointment to a position with a lower maximum pay rate than the employee's current job classification.

  • Demoted employees' pay rates will be set within the approved range for the lower classification, taking into consideration the reasons for the demotion.
  • Demotions may be subject to a six-month probationary period.

Transfer

  • Employees may be transferred to other departments, bureaus, or divisions with the same job classification or appointed to different classifications with the same pay range.
  • Pay rates will not change as a result of the transfer, and annual increase dates will remain the same.
