3/7-15.00 DRESS UNIFORM 3/7-15.01 GENERAL Each Member shall maintain a dress uniform in good condition, to be worn exclusively as a dress uniform. 3/7-15.10 OFFICER'S DRESS UNIFORM Shall consist of: A. Black, approved all wool or polyester trousers. B. Black, approved all wool or polyester dress coat (with collar ornaments) with the Department patch sewn on the left upper sleeve (See Fig 10). The dress uniform (A&B above) shall be either all wool or all polyester, mixed combinations are prohibited. Note The polyester dress uniform shall not be worn on emergency responses unless covered by appropriate safety clothing. C. White shirt, including collar ornaments D. Uniform cap E. Dress shoes F. Black socks G. Uniform belt and buckle H. Black tie (with approved tie clasp) Note When members are standing in a natural upright position, the tie should reach within 1" of the belt buckle. (See Fig. 8 & 9) I. Badge J. Medal of Valor Pin (if awarded) K. Nameplate L. Armed Services Ribbon(s) (if awarded) 3/7-15.15 CHIEF OFFICER'S AND CAPTAIN'S SUMMER DRESS UNIFORM Chief Officers and Captains shall wear a summer dress uniform, consisting of a summer dress shirt with tie, collar insignias, and shoulder epaulets, to be worn without a dress coat. A. The time frame for wearing the Summer Dress Uniform shall coincide with daylight savings time. B. The Summer Dress Uniform shall be worn at Academy graduations, annual inspections, and community events. (Captains may wear the work uniform at community events). Note A dress coat shall be worn at all times when attending funerals, administrative hearings, appearing before the City Council or Fire Commission, or directed by the Fire Chief. 3/7-15.18 FEMALE OFFICER'S DRESS UNIFORM Shall consist of and be tailored to LAFD specifications: A. Black, approved wool/polyester blend skirt. B. Black, approved wool/polyester blend jacket with the Department patch sewn on the upper left sleeve (See Fig. 10). C. Optional: Black approved wool polyester blend pants may be worn in lieu of the skirt. Note This dress uniform shall not be worn on emergency responses unless covered by appropriate safety clothing. D. White uniform blouse with collar. E. Black crossover tie. F. Uniform cap. G. Black dress shoes as described in Manual of Operation 3/7-10.40 B, 2. H. Handbag (optional) shall be of plain black leather or synthetic material, envelope-style; not more than 11" wide and 7-1/2" deep. The handbag shall be carried over the left shoulder or with the strap shortened for carrying over the arm. I. Hosiery shall be made of nylon material, flesh tone, undecorated, and seamless. J. Badge K. Medal of Valor Pin (if awarded) L. Nameplate. M. Armed Services Ribbon(s) (if awarded) 3/7-15.20 NON-OFFICER'S DRESS UNIFORM Shall consist of: A. Black all wool trousers B. Black all wool shirt (long sleeve with service stripes) with the Department patch sewn on the upper left sleeve (See Fig. 10, Page 29). C. Uniform cap D. Dress shoes E. Black socks F. Uniform belt and buckle G. Black tie (with approved tie clasp) H. Badge I. Medal of Valor Pin (if awarded) J. Nameplate K. Armed Services Ribbon(s) (if awarded) NOTE Fire Prevention Bureau Inspectors shall wear the white uniform cap. 3/7-15.25 FEMALE NON-OFFICER OPTIONAL DRESS UNIFORM Shall consist of and be tailored to LAFD specifications: A. Black all wool skirt B. Black all wool shirt (long sleeve with service stripes) with the Department patch sewn on the upper left sleeve (See Fig. 10). C. Uniform belt and buckle D. Black crossover tie E. Uniform cap F. Dress shoes G. Handbag (optional) shall be made of plain black leather or synthetic material, envelope style; not more than 11" wide and 7-1/2" deep. Armed Services Ribbon(s) (if awarded) Note The female optional dress uniform shall not be worn at field assignments when the potential for an emergency response exists. 3/7-80.00 BADGES AND INSIGNIA 3/7-80.97 ARMED FORCES RIBBONS Members are encouraged to wear ribbons representing duly authorized decorations or awards for service in the Armed Forces of the United States, or awarded by an ally friendly to the United States at the time of service on the outermost garment of the dress uniform. Ribbons worn on the uniform shirt shall be affixed below the badge and above the left shirt pocket. Ribbons worn on the dress coat shall be affixed below the badge and above the left chest pocket. If necessary to provide sufficient space for ribbons, the badge may be adjusted upwards a maximum distance equal to the height of four rows of ribbons.
