0/1 GENERAL 1 0/1 GENERAL 0/1 GENERAL/MANUAL OF OPERATION -01 INTRODUCTION.01 GENERAL The Manual of Operation is a composite of permanent policies and procedures established by the Fire Chief. Members shall conform to these policies, procedures, and directives in the application of their respective duties. Except for the Rules and Regulations or pending amendments resulting from directives issued in a Weekly Bulletin or Special Notice, the content of the Manual of Operation shall supersede any conflicting information contained in other Department publications. -25. ORGANIZATION OF MATERIAL.01 VOLUMES, CATEGORIES, CHAPTERS, ETC. The Manual of Operation consists of six volumes. Each volume contains one or more "categories" (a general grouping of material pertaining to a given subject). Some examples of "categories" are: DEPARTMENT ORGANIZATION EMERGENCY OPERATION PERSONNEL PROCEDURES ROUTINE OPERATIONS DRILL MANUAL APPARATUS SERVICE AND SUPPLIES REPORTS & RECORDS FIRE PREVENTION/GENERAL PRE-FIRE PLANNING The various categories are divided into chapters; chapters are further divided into sections and sub-sections. Refer to the "Table of Contents" for a complete list of the categories and chapters, or to the "index" if a specific item of information is desired. -50. PAGE IDENTIFICATION.01 NUMBERING SYSTEM A modified numbering system is used for each category, chapter, section, and subsection of the Manual of Operation. This system provides a quick reference to material, affords an easy means of citing specific subjects and maintains the flexibility of format necessary to facilitate expansion and revision of the content. A typical reference using this numbering system is "2/3-60.14" and means the following: A. The number (2/) to the left of the diagonal line signifies the particular category of information, i.e., "Emergency Operation". B. The 3-60.14 conveys several facts: First the material is in Chapter 3 (2/3-60.14). 0/1 GENERAL 2 Next, that it is in Section 60 of Chapter 3 (2/3-60.14). Finally, that it is located in the sub-section designated as.14 (2/3-60.14). C. This reference is read as "two, three, sixty point fourteen". This numbering system will be applied to all new or revised Manual of Operation material. D. Certain future reference material issued as a part of the Department library will incorporate the above numbering system, but the number will be preceded by the letter "R" denoting that it is reference material..60 PAGE TITLE An example of a typical page title is: EMERGENCY OPERATION/LARGE SCALE The words to the left of the diagonal line, (Emergency Operation) indicate the category, and the words to the right of the diagonal line, (Large Scale) indicate the chapter within the category. -75.
