Dress Uniform Overview

• Each member must maintain a dress uniform in good condition, exclusively for formal occasions.

Officer's Dress Uniform Specifications

• Comprises of black wool or polyester trousers and jacket with collar ornaments and Department patch on the left upper sleeve.
• Mixed fabric combinations are prohibited.
• Polyester uniform not permitted for emergency responses unless covered by appropriate safety gear.
• Includes a white shirt, uniform cap, dress shoes, black socks, uniform belt and buckle, and a black tie (should reach within 1" of the belt buckle).
• Accessories: badge, Medal of Valor Pin (if awarded), nameplate, and Armed Services Ribbon(s) (if awarded).

Chief Officer's and Captain's Summer Dress Uniform

• Consists of a summer dress shirt, tie, collar insignias, and shoulder epaulets without a dress coat.
• Worn only during daylight savings time, at Academy graduations, annual inspections, and specific community events.
• Dress coat required for funerals, administrative hearings, City Council, or Fire Commission appearances.

Female Officer's Dress Uniform Specifications

• Tailored to LAFD specifications, featuring a black wool/polyester blend skirt or black approved pants, and jacket with Department patch.
• Includes a white blouse, black crossover tie, uniform cap, and black dress shoes.
• Optional handbag must be plain black leather/synthetic, maximum dimensions 11" wide and 7.5" deep.
• Hosiery must be nylon, flesh tone, undecorated, and seamless.
• Accessories: badge, Medal of Valor Pin (if awarded), nameplate, and Armed Services Ribbon(s) (if awarded).

Non-Officer's Dress Uniform Specifications

• Comprises black all wool trousers, long-sleeve shirt with service stripes, and Department patch.
• Includes uniform cap, dress shoes, black socks, uniform belt and buckle, and black tie.
• Accessories: badge, Medal of Valor Pin (if awarded), nameplate, and Armed Services Ribbon(s) (if awarded).
• Fire Prevention Bureau Inspectors wear a white uniform cap.

Female Non-Officer Optional Dress Uniform

• Tailored to the same specifications as the female officer's uniform, allowing for a black wool skirt.
• Includes a combination of other components like a long-sleeve shirt, uniform cap, and optional handbag.
• The optional uniform should not be worn at field assignments with potential emergency responses.

Badges and Insignia

• Members are encouraged to wear Armed Forces ribbons representing authorized decorations or awards on the outermost garment of the dress uniform.
• Ribbons must be placed below the badge and above the respective shirt or coat pocket.
• If necessary, the badge can be adjusted upwards to accommodate ribbon space, not exceeding the height of four rows of ribbons.
