HOFFMAN ESTATES FIRE DEPARTMENT STANDARD OPERATING GUIDELINES SOG Category & Identification Number: EFFECTIVE DATE: RESPONSE GUIDELINES – 014 January 1, 2022 NIMS COMPLIANT SOG Title: Automatic and Mutual Aid Revision: 7 APPROVED BY: NUMBER OF PAGES: Re-evaluation Date: Alan Wax January 1, 2026 Fire Chief 2 PURPOSE The purpose of this guideline is to provide standardized and predetermined responses to all incidents classified as Automatic or Mutual Aid by Northwest Central Dispatch (NWCD). POLICY It shall be the policy of the Hoffman Estates Fire Department to follow this guideline. However, it may be altered to achieve a more appropriate response based on information received from NWCD or to achieve a faster response based on location and/or status of fire department apparatus and personnel. PROCEDURE A. Automatic and Mutual Aid given by the Hoffman Estates Fire Department. 1. When requested to respond to another Fire Department/District’s jurisdiction, the Hoffman Estates Fire Department will respond with the closest available unit that satisfies this request per Response Guideline 13. 2. Staffing for Automatic and Mutual Aid calls shall be pursuant to Response Guideline 13 (MABAS Box Alarm Part B). On fire calls, only the primary apparatus (Tower 22) will respond (no support apparatus). For extrication responses, both Tower 22 and Squad 22 will respond. B. Automatic and Mutual Aid given by neighboring Fire Departments 1. Relieve automatic and mutual aid companies as soon as the incident is secured. 1 DEFINITIONS Automatic Aid: Initial closest unit received from other regional fire departments as a result of a written agreement. Mutual Aid: The response of resources from one jurisdiction into another in response to a special request or Box Alarm. EXCEPTIONS Where MABAS Illinois Policies and Procedures current online reference or MABAS 1 Operating Guidelines/Policy Statements are in conflict with HEFD Standard Operating Guidelines, HEFD Standard Operating Guidelines will take precedence.
