HOFFMAN ESTATES FIRE DEPARTMENT STANDARD OPERATING GUIDELINES SOG Category & Identification Number: EFFECTIVE DATE: RESPONSE GUIDELINES – 007 January 1, 2022 NIMS COMPLIANT SOG Title: Code 4 Revision: 6 APPROVED BY: NUMBER OF PAGES: Re-evaluation Date: Alan Wax January 1, 2026 Fire Chief 1 PURPOSE The purpose of this guideline is to provide standardized and predetermined responses to all incidents classified as Code 4 by Northwest Central Dispatch (NWCD). POLICY It shall be the policy of the Hoffman Estates Fire Department to follow this guideline: however, it may be altered to achieve a more appropriated response based on information received from NWCD or to achieve a faster response based on location and/or status of fire department apparatus and personnel. PROCEDURE For structure fires or other appropriate emergencies, the following response will be followed upon requesting "a Code 4 Response": All remaining in-service Hoffman Estates Fire Department apparatus will respond to the incident scene. This response may be supplemented by Mutual Aid apparatus, if necessary, to total the response of 4 Engines, 4 Ambulances, 1 Squad, 1 Tower, 4 Staff Chiefs, 1 Auto Aid Shift Commander, 1 Auto Aid apparatus for RIC and Hanover Township Emergency Management Agency. NOTE: For Code 4 responses, Station 21, 23 and 24 will receive a Mutual Aid change of quarters Engine. Station 22 will receive a change of quarters Ambulance. Chiefs are notified. DEFINITIONS A Code 4 is the response level between the Code 3 and Box Alarm Level. It may be requested by command for personnel and/or staffing needs under a variety of circumstances. EXCEPTIONS Where MABAS Illinois Policies and Procedures current online reference or MABAS 1 Operating Guidelines/Policy Statements are in conflict with HEFD Standard Operating Guidelines, HEFD Standard Operating Guidelines will take precedence.
