Parents may NOT take them unless they are checked out first. **FIRE DRILLS:** In accordance with state law, a fire drill will be conducted no less than once every 9 weeks during the school year. Drills will be signaled by a continuous blast of the fire buzzer, at which time students and staff should leave the building as quickly as possible according to the procedures included below. Teachers should follow their classes and shut their classroom door on the way out. A class list should be utilized to insure all students are accounted for once outside. An "all clear" will be signaled by ringing the normal school bells. Staff members are responsible for making sure that these maps/procedures are poste in their classrooms. The following procedures are to be carried out when the fire alarm sounds: 1. Teachers should make sure that: - *Door is closed and light is turned off upon leaving the room* - *Staff take their Crisis Management Bag* - *Students are walking quietly when leaving the room and the building* - *Staff directs their students where to go by following the map.* - All students take a coat if necessary. 2. If a class is with another teacher, the regular classroom teacher should go to their location. 3. When students exit the building, they are to go to an open grassy area away from the building. No one is to stand in the parking lot. 4. When the class is outside, teachers are to take roll. If they are missing a student(s) they will let the closest crisis team member know. 5. All persons in the building are to exit the building when the alarm sounds unless directed or given permission to remain by the administration. 6. All doors are to be closed upon exiting any room or the building. The first person out in any of group should be a door holder to help with the flow, but the door must be closed after all have exited. 7. When the return signal sounds, teachers are to direct their students to return quietly to their rooms and continue with scheduled activities. Do not come back in the building until the principal has said "All Clear" and the bell has rung. 8. In the event of a real fire, students will report to the Beech Activity Center or Kapaun Mt. Carmel High School gymnasium. 9. **You will be directed by the administrator where to go.** **CRISIS INTERVENTION PLAN:** Other events such as bomb threats, threats of violence, emergency situations, etc. will be outlined in the Campus Crisis Plan. A copy of the updated plan will be given to each staff member at a later date. All staff member should be aware of the procedures outlined in this plan and keep it handy for quick reference in the event of an emergency. A listing of Crisis Intervention Team members will be included with the plan. **INTRUDER ON CAMPUS:** The following procedure should be carried out during an Intruder on Campus drill. 1. Lock classroom doors 2. Have students in an area of the room where they cannot be seen from any windows, if possible. 3. If teachers are missing a student, they should put that child's name on a form on the door. 4. Remain in the safety area until the all clear has been given. 5. When the return signal sounds, teachers are to direct their students to continue with scheduled activities. 6. If there is a real intruder on campus, adjust the above procedures as needed; keeping in mind everyone's safety is most important. **SHELTER IN PLACE:** The following procedures should be carried out in the unlikely event of a chemical spill or other reason that would require the school to keep students safe for an extended period of time. 1. The FEMA Shelter is the shelter in place for the entire building. 2. Safely materials are located in the safe room storage area. (Duct Tape to block windows and doors and bottled water) 3. The ventilation systems should be shut off. The custodial staff is responsible for shutting of the ventilation system. 4. Team leaders are responsible for organizing the students and staff in the placing of plastic. 5. The Assistant Principal is responsible for seeing that all windows and doors to the building are locked. The secretary is responsible for placing a sign on the front window notifying outsiders that the school is in lock-down mode and there is no entrance for ANYONE! 6. The office staff will move to the Latch Key office in the FEMA shelter. The principal is responsible for notifying security that the school is in "shelter in place" mode.
