## Mechanics There are two main branches of mechanics: - **Statics**: deals with bodies in motion. - **Dynamics**: is further divided into kinematics and kinetics. - **Kinematics**: This is the study of bodies in motion without considering the force, while - the source of bodies and forces in motion - **Kinetics**: This deals with the study of different laws of mechanics as applied to solutions in engineering problems. * **Scalar**: has only magnitude but no direction. * **Vector**: quantity has both magnitude and direction. Examples: * **Scalar**: density, volume, displacement, time, distance, speed * **Vector**: acceleration, velocity, moment, force, torque.
