The family provides the child’ social, psychological and emotional needs – warmth, intimacy, affection, love, nurturance, care and security. Marriage is another human construction to insure the continuity of the family and eventual perpetuation of the human species. Marriage is systematized and institutionalized for the purpose of begetting and rearing children and the regulation of sexual behavior. As the society experiences modernization, the family life becomes more challenging. The various conditions of our society that affect our families today include single parenthood, a rise in the incidence of child abuse, mass poverty, consumerism, family violence, vices, drugs and alcoholism, electronic age, working mothers, and rise in the number of overseas workers. UCSP LESSON 5: PART 1 As a result, many families are separated either by work, war or psychological incompatibility. Many children are living with one parent or living alone.
