Prevalence of Mental Health Problems One in five children may have a mental health condition. Two-thirds of young people with mental health problems are not getting the help they need. Prevalence of Mental Health Problems 1 Half of all chronic mental illnesses begin by age 14, three quarters by age 24. Significant delays often occur between the onset of a mental disorder and the first treatment.
