Image to Text What is mental health? Mental health refers to how a person thinks, feels, and acts to cope with stresses of life. It includes the ability to bounce back after experiencing difficulties in life. People who are considered in good mental health can still continue to study and work in spite of the problems they encounter in life. For example, in Henry’s story, if Henry would always think that his life is sad because he has no family of his own, then he would feel sad, and act sadly. This means he would just stay in one corner, avoid talking and playing with his classmates. What is emotional health? Emotional health is the ability to manage your emotions and feelings. For example, Henry could talk nicely to his teachers and friends despite being an orphan. If Henry feels sad sometimes, it doesn’t mean he is not emotionally healthy. Sadness and worries are normal emotions and this is healthy. What is unhealthy is when Henry would always feel sad that his everyday activities would be affected. He would cut classes and would just hang out with other dropped out kids. Who are the mentally and emotionally healthy children? Children who are mentally and emotionally healthy are able to do the regular activities that children do like playing and studying in spite of the problems at home or in school. Thus, they could be in a better position to have friends in school. Children who are mentally and emotionally healthy should also be in good physical health. Thus, they should learn to practice personal hygiene, good grooming, correct posture, and dental health. In this way, they can be in a better position to develop self-confidence. Summary The text explains the concepts of mental and emotional health. Mental health involves coping with life’s stresses and continuing daily activities despite challenges. Emotional health is about managing emotions effectively, and experiencing sadness doesn’t necessarily indicate poor emotional health. The text emphasizes that mentally and emotionally healthy children can perform regular activities, make friends, and maintain good physical health, which includes personal hygiene and grooming. This helps them develop self-confidence. Image to Text How is loneliness overcome? Loneliness is a feeling of sadness and unpleasant response. You felt lonely when your friend was sick; or your parents did not allow you to join a birthday party, or you failed one of your periodical tests. Here are several ways to overcome loneliness: Think of happy thoughts and stay active. Always remember that you are not alone. Play with your friends or do interesting things together. Get busy by reading a book or magazine, making your assignment, assisting in your family business, or doing anything you love to do. Go for a walk or bike ride. Listen to music and join a special program in your school. Help your mom and dad to do household chores. Take care of a pet. Pets are our companions at home. A pet can be your friend and source of happiness. For example, the dog greets you at the door by wagging its tail. When you are alone, you can talk to your pet. You can play with them. Be a responsible pet owner by taking good care of them. Summary The text discusses ways to overcome loneliness, describing it as a feeling of sadness and unpleasant response. It suggests staying active, thinking happy thoughts, engaging in activities you enjoy, and playing with friends. It also recommends taking care of a pet as pets can serve as companions and sources of happiness. Image to Text Learn new skills. Every child has unique talents and skills. Image to Text What are some signs of healthy family relationships? Here are the ways for families to develop a healthy relationship. Spending quality time together Family relations are strengthened when families spend time doing enjoyable activities together such as going to amusement parks, watching comedy films, and attending local fairs. Children can also spend quality time with their busy parents by going to church together. They can also cook or prepare snacks or deserts, clean the house and do other household chores together. Showing Respect A healthy family shows respect to one another. The children can show their respect to their parents by doing the “mano,” saying “po” and “opo,” and obeying their parents. Parents also show respect to their children by asking permission when they need to use their children’s belongings. Talking in an open and honest manner One way of keeping the family relationship healthy is by keeping the family members informed about invitations, notices, phone calls, and other family happenings. Children can openly talk to their parents about what happened at school or what they do with their friends. In most cases, meal times serve as the avenue for the family to meet and talk with each other about one’s recent experiences feelings, and achievements. Summary The image outlines three key ways to develop healthy family relationships. First, spending quality time together through various enjoyable activities helps strengthen family bonds. Second, showing respect to each other, including children respecting parents and vice versa, is crucial. Third, maintaining open and honest communication within the family keeps everyone informed and provides opportunities to share experiences and feelings, often facilitated during meal times. Mental Health A person who has a healthy mind remains positive in spite of problems in life. For example, a child who decides to finish schooling no matter how poor the family is or how big the problem of the family is. How can a person stay positive in spite of problems in life? Setting attainable and reasonable goals: Be realistic in the goals you set. Avoid setting goals that you know that you can’t achieve so as to avoid stress. Accepting and facing the challenges of daily life: Thinking positively even in a negative situation helps in moving forward. Keeping the mind active and learning new things: Take classes or workshops to develop skills you want to have. Being sociable: Be friendly and nice to other people. Friends can help especially in times of difficulties. Listening and following the good advice of parents, elders, and teachers: Parents and teachers can teach you to develop useful coping abilities.
