It is an approach wherein students are demanded to read more to improve knowledge. SKIMMING SCANNING EXTENSIVE READING Skimming is reading rapidly in order to get a general overview/gist of the material. Use skimming in previewing (reading before you read), reviewing (reading after you read), determining the main idea from a long selection you don't wish to read, or when trying to find source material for a research paper. Scanning It is quickly reading a text to get the summary of it. It is a technique wherein students search for specific words, ideas, or details. Scanning is also used for the reader to find answers to questions. Once a students scanned the document, they will go back and skim it. How to do Skimming? Look at the topic sentences of each paragraph. Skip some unimportant paragraphs Read only words that will help you get sense of the text. Read the last paragraph carefully. Read chapter summaries when provided. How to do Scanning? Know what you're looking for. Decide on a few key words or phrases–search terms. Look for only one keyword at a time. If you use multiple keywords, do multiple scans. Let your eyes float rapidly down the page until you find the word or phrase you want. When your eye catches one of your keywords, read the surrounding material carefully. Scanning to answer questions Read each question completely before starting to scan. Choose your keywords from the question itself. Look for answers to only one question at a time. Your multimedia must not exceed five (5) minutes. Be creative and be visually appealing.
