Those skills are highly important to survive and succeed in this competitive world. We learn to distinguish between the right and the wrong and as a result, we learn to do the right thing in difficult situations. This is one of the most essential values of education Communication is the key to survival. Today, to be able to read and to write is the most essential form of communication. Proper education or guidance teaches us to read and write. From the ancient times, superstitions have filled the society. Such superstitions have hindered the success of man over the ages. With proper knowledge, superstitions can easily be removed from the society. VALUE FUNCTION OF EDUCATION Education makes a person open-minded. He/ she then learns to take ideas from others. It makes a person to be more creative Most importantly, it empowers women. When a woman is properly guided, she becomes capable of protecting herself. A learned and educated nation is economically prosperous. The nation is always better prepared to fight disasters and diseases such as the COVID-19 Moreover, it adds fundamental, moral ethics to an individual’s life. The individual, in-turn spreads those moral ethics to his or her family, friends, children and associates. This results in a positive growth and attitude. In this way it It polishes our moral senses. Consequently, we learn to make the right decisions at the right time. This in turn makes us a responsible human being as well as a responsible citizen IDENTITY FUNCTION OF EDUCATION This is also called identity formation It refers to the development of distinct personality of an individual in a particular stage of life Education can organize several programmes that can build up a sense of ethnicity among the youth These programmes can improve the understanding of other ethnics The youth will know the strength and uniqueness of ethnic identity When students have full understanding of ethnic identity, they will become more tolerant and understanding of other ethnic groups. IDENTITY FUNCTION OF EDUCATION Community service can help instill the sense of national identity Can instill a sense of solidarity Religion does not only provide spiritual guidance but can also be an ethnic identity for one’s race STRATIFICATION FUNCTION Education plays a very important role in maintaining the stratification system and justifying the unequal distribution of wealth schools reflect stratification and sometimes can be a cause of it The schools that children attend can have an enormous influence on their life chances. Upper class children join the best private schools, while in government schools mostly pupils from lower status background are admitted. Functionalists believe that education bestows status upon the recipients Marxist) theorists argue that this bestowal of status causes differences in society. They stress that schools admit pupils according to social STRATIFICATION FUNCTION Society is, therefore, based on an unequal distribution of advantage It is characterized by a conflict of interests between the advantaged and the disadvantaged children from lower class who are much less likely to attend the private schools that give better chances for a good career. Although the educational system helps certain poor children to move into middle class professional positions, it denies the most disadvantaged children the same educational opportunities afforded to children of the affluent class. Thus, schools tend to preserve social class inequalities in each new generation. Education creates the conditions for the reproduction of inequality This means that, education helps to justify in people’s minds a system of inequality ECONOMIC FUNCTION SOCIALISATION FUNCTION
