He Was A Japanese Novelist And Short Story Writer (20th century) Theme of the chapter This story shows how adults crush talents. Seibei, a student of primary school was a talented boy. He spent his time in collecting gourds. Theme of the chapter While All children played Seibei used to collect gourds in the city. So he knew all the places where gourds sold. Theme of the chapter One day he was going through a back street and he saw a cluster of gourds. He bought a gourd and since then he never separated that gourd from him. Theme of the chapter But one day he caught with that gourd in his school and teacher snatched the gourd from Seibei and complained to his father. Theme of the chapter Seibei's father all the gourds which were hung on the wall at seibei's house and scolded him. Theme of the chapter The teacher gave this gourd to the porter of the school and after two months he sold this gourd to curio- dealer for 50 yen and dealer sold it to a collecter for 600 yen. Theme of the chapter Now seibei is engrossed in making pictures and his father scolds him for this also. Theme of the chapter Thus this story shows how the interest of seibei was crushed.
