The art of nursing come from the compassion and empathy towards the care for patients. The science comes from evidence based and scientific research to find the right care for the patient. 2. List the roles a nurse can perform. What is a professional certification? Educator, Case Manager, Leader, care provider, researcher, change agent. 3. What does the scope of nursing practice by the American Nurses Association (ANA) outline? 1. Protecting, promoting, and advancing clients health 2. Averting illness and injures through health promotion 3. Using the nursing process to facilitate client's recovery 4. Minimizing or eliminate client's suffering 5. Advocating for the care and health of the client, family or community 4. Identify actions the American Nurses Association (ANA) take to support the profession of nursing. Outline the historical evolution of nursing education. 1. In the 19^th^ century, nursing education was only in hospitals, with only hands-on experience 2. The first nursing school was established in 1860 by Florence Nightingale at St. Thomas' Hospital in London. This provided nursing students with practical experience and minimal classroom instruction 3. in 1970 there was a shift in nursing education with a growing recognition of the nurses to have a stronger theoretical foundation to keep up with the increasing complexity in healthcare. Health literacy encompasses client's knowledge of their health and their ability to take action to maintain and improve their health. This is critical for nurses because it provides the best care possible for the client and for the client they are more knowledge about what is going on with them and how they can improve their health. 15.
