Figure 2: Components of ICT(EuropeYou, 2020) According to Asociacion EuropeYou (2020), the components of the ICT are the following: Cloud computing – The term is generally used to describe data centers available to many users over the Internet. Clouds may be limited to a single organization (enterprise clouds), be available to many organizations (public cloud) or a combination of both (hybrid cloud). The largest public cloud is Amazon AWS. Hardware – in the context of technology, refers to the physical elements that make up a computer or electronic system and everything else involved that is physically tangible. This includes the monitor, hard drive, memory and the CPU. Hardware works hand-in-hand with firmware and software to make a computer function. Hardware will be discussed in detail in a separate module. Software is a set of instructions, data or programs used to operate computers and execute specific tasks. It is a generic term used to refer to applications, scripts and programs that run on a device. Software will be discussed in detail in a separate module. Processing is when data are manipulated to produce meaningful information. It can include a number of stages such as sorting, searching, calculating, merging, CS 1 Page 3 of 7  summarizing, etc. The result/s obtained from processing the data is/are information. Some examples of processing could include: - searching student’s personal information after encoding the student’s ID number - sorting the list of students’ names in a section in alphabetical order - after a barcode has been scanned (input), retrieving the price of the item from the supermarket database and using this data to calculate the customer's bill Digital Transactions or processes can be broadly defined as online or automated transactions that take place between people and organizations—without the use of paper. Digital transactions save time and money. Customer experiences are also enhanced. And digital transactions improve tracking capabilities—which helps reduce errors. Data is the raw material of information - it does not have any meaning until it is processed and turned into something useful. It is what we encode to the computer. It comes in many forms, the main ones being letters, numbers, images, symbols, sound, and videos. On the other hand, information is processed data. It is the output of computer processing. Digital Data represents other forms of data using specific machine language systems that can be interpreted by various technologies. The most fundamental of these systems is a binary system, which simply stores complex audio, video or text information in a series of binary characters, traditionally ones and zeros, or «on» and «off» values. Internet access is the process of connecting to the internet using personal computers, laptops or mobile devices by users or enterprises. Internet access is subject to data signalling rates and users could be connected at different internet speeds. Internet access enables individuals or CS 1 Page 4 of 7  organizations to avail internet services/web-based services. The speed, cost, reliability and availability of internet access depends on the region, internet service provider and type of connection. Ways to obtain internet access: - Wireless connection - Mobile connection - Hotspots - Dial-up - Broadband - DSL - Satellite Communications Technology is another important part of IT infrastructure. The significant aspects that comprise this technology include networking, internet access, and website development. 1 Moreover, ICT also encompasses the application of all those various components.
