### The Creature's Request "I found a box in the woods. There were books in it. I read about the creation of Adam. I wondered about my creator. Had he turned from me? "Then I read another book. It was in your coat, I took it from your lab; I knew it was there; I just couldn't read it before; it was the journal you kept about creating me. "I know what an evil person you are. Why did you make me a monster? Even you hate me. I wish I had never come alive; I am all alone. "There's more to my story; The old man was alone in the cottage one day; I found out he was blind; I knew he couldn't see how ugly I was; I thought I could talk to him; I was afraid but I finally knocked on the door. "Come in," said the old man. "I went inside; "Pardon me," I said, "I am a tired traveler; I need rest, May I sit by your fire?" "What is it that brings you here?" the old man asked. "I have come to visit a family; they are good people but they have never seen me; I'm afraid they will turn me away; then I'll have no one. "Don't worry, if they're good people, they'll welcome you. Who are these people? Maybe I can help you." “Just then, the young people returned; I was filled with fear; I cried: "Save me! You're the people I'm looking for!" “Goodness!” The old man cried; “Who are you?” The cottage door opened; the young people came in; Agatha fainted; Safie ran screaming; Felix picked up a stick; he began to beat me; I could have killed him but I didn't; I ran from the cottage. “I hid in the woods; in the morning, I went back, I thought I could try to make peace with them; they were leaving; I had scared them away; I never saw them again. "At first I was sad, then I became angry; This was your fault; I decided to punish you. "I began to walk to Switzerland; it was a hard journey; I began to think about my revenge. "I reached Geneva; I sat down to rest; then a boy found my hiding place; I thought maybe I could talk to him; maybe we could be friends; I grabbed his hand. "As soon as he saw me, he screamed, "Why are you screaming?” I asked, “I won't hurt you; be quiet!" "You monster!" he cried, "Let me go; I'll tell my papa; he is Alphonse Frankenstein; he’ll punish you." "Frankenstein? You belong to my enemy; you'll be my first victim.” The child struggled; he called me names; I put my hands around his throat; in a moment, he was dead. "I knew we would meet one day, Frankenstein; I want you to make a promise; I'm so alone; I need a friend; You must make a wife for me!"
