How do you organize your ideas? Lesson 2: Techniques in Selecting and organizing ideas Ma’am Sybel D iez Some Effective Ways to Select and Organize Information 1. Brainstorming -it is a process of generating creative ideas and solutions through intensive and freewheeling group discussions. -It involves documenting and coming up with a list of best ideas 2. Graphic organizers -it is also known as knowledge map, concept map, story map, cognitive organizer, advance organizer, or concept -its main diagram. purpose is to provide a visual aid to facilitate learning and instruction. Common Types of Graphic Organizers Clock Diagram - a variation of a pie chart used to diagram the use of hours in a day. Example: Time you spent during a school day Venn diagram -shows the logical relationship between group of things. They are often shown as two circles that intersect in the middle of the page. Decision- making diagram -it provides a visual layout for organizing the possible alternatives to a problem with their advantages and disadvantages. KWHL Chart -it allows students to document their own learning process from start to finish on a particular subject. The letters stand for the steps in the process, which are what I already know, what I want to learn, how I will find out, y CHART -it is a three-part graphic organizer that is used for describing three aspects of a topic. Cycle diagram -this is used to show how a series of events interact repeatedly through a cycle. Fishbone diagram -it is used to identify the causes or composition of some complex system or event. Each bone coming off of the spine of the diagram is broken down into more details. Frayer model -this diagram is a vocabulary development tool. -this model helps to develop a better understanding of complex concepts by identifying not just what something is, but Star diagram -it is used for organizing the characteristics of a single topic. The topic is placed in the central space, with each “point” of the star being the facts, attributes, or traits about the topic. Chain diagrams -also called the sequence of events diagrams. This is the type of graphic organizer that describes the stages or steps in a process. 3. -alsoOutlining called hierarchical outline -is a list arranged to show hierarchical relationship and it’s a type of a tree structure.
