BOCA RATON POLICE SERVICES DEPARTMENT Standard Operating Procedure 41.40 ROAD PATROL SHIFT PICK PROCESS Revised: new I. PURPOSE: The purpose of this standard operating procedure is to establish the process for Road Patrol shift picks. II. PROCEDURE: A. Prior to the shift pick process, LEOs will receive an electronic survey where he/she can choose three shifts in order of preference. B. The results of the survey will be forwarded to the FSD office supervisor I. C. The Office Supervisor I or his/her designee will process the surveys in order of seniority and will begin shift picks. D. The shift pick process will be posted “live” on the Department Intranet. E. If the LEO’s first assignment request is unavailable, the LEO’s subsequent requests will be processed, continuing until the LEO is placed on a squad. F. If all requested positions are unavailable, the LEO shall be called. G. Every effort shall be made to distribute probationary LEOs equally on all shifts. H. The FSD commander or his/her designee will be responsible for making a final determination on the bid results and shift assignments and providing shift commanders with a list of those assignments within seven days of receiving all the slips. I. Employees may be assigned to other shifts at the discretion of the FSD commander, when the need arises, and/or for the benefit of the Department. J. The FSD commander will be responsible for the completion and distribution of the duty roster. The duty roster will be posted within the FSD. K. Individual employees will be responsible for checking the duty roster for their respective duty assignments. L. The chief of police or his/her designee will determine the assignment and work schedule for lieutenants assigned to FSD based on the needs of the Department. Lieutenants and sergeants within the FSD may be assigned duties and duty hours at the discretion of the FSD commander Effective: April 13, 2021 Revised: Road Patrol Shift Pick Process SOP No. 41.40 Page 1 of 2 M. The Department reserves the right to adjust the schedule or staffing as needed. N. The chief of police or his/her designee has the authority and discretion to alter or change shift hours.
