Due to the Newtonian synthesis, we learned that the motion of bodies in heaven obeys the same laws of motion as do bodies on earth. **Quiz** A person balances a meterstick on a horizontal position on the extended index finger of both hands. That person slowly brings the two fingers together. The stick remains balanced and the two fingers ALWAYS meet at the 50-cm mark (which in this case is the center of mass of the meterstick) regardless of their original positions. Explain this mind-blowing phenomenon using everything you know. Ans. The fingers meet at the center because of unequal friction. The finger with less weight slides first, while the one with more weight stays put due to higher friction. As this process alternates, both fingers eventually meet at the center of mass, where the stick is perfectly balanced.
